I've added the ability to create Google Earth overlays from GPSFS maps - Set Dir, View, GPSFS to Site Dir (creating a local set of tiles) and pointing directly at the online tiles - * tab in the bottom left, click GE Overlay. This could be useful to check the accuracy of various mapping sources (assuming that Google Earth is correct, or comparing a few to see which ones agree).
For example:
http://www.in7ane.com/psp/posts/MapABC.kml
MapABC (the map source used by google.cn) seems to be significantly offset from Google Earth (this may be due to a different projection/grid in China, that was not converted correctly).
http://www.in7ane.com/psp/posts/YahooSat.kml
Yahoo Satellite is slightly offset from Google Earth.
http://www.in7ane.com/psp/posts/VEMap.kml
Virtual Earth Map only has a few of the main roads which seem to generally correspond to the roads layer in Google Earth.
http://www.in7ane.com/psp/posts/GoogleSat.kml
Google Satellite corresponds exactly to Google Earth, as expected.
Note: the KML files contain links to tiles hosted on the various mapping services (not the actual image tiles) in order to provide an illustration and a way to evaluate the quality of the services offered.
BarfHappy, that's right - google seems to have a limit on how many satellite tiles an IP can downlaod in a given time.
magixx, see if you can view the map after generating it (click View and/or Test in GMDL) to see if the map is ok, if it is try a ready made map and see if that loads in Map This! ok: http://www.in7ane.com/psp/maps_various/ if it doesn't it's a memory card/psp problem.
