Hi crookedmouth,
yes, I used the DLDI patcher, otherwise it wouldn't find the roms.
How do I select it twice? Once when I start Frodo and then again with the left button?
Thanks for your help

Awesome work you did with this incredible emu.
Got it working finally on my little R4. My girlfriend just shook her head when she saw that little blue cursor blinking. :D
Women - dont need em.
A little noob question from me: in some games e.g. Last Ninja (my fave) music is really good but its playing much too slow. Kind of emulating issue ? Any workaround here?
Thanx in advance & just keep up the great work!
Regards from western germany. :)
For some reason you need to choose the rom twice at first. I'm guessing you've tried it by now , by pressing left trigger.
Did you get it working?
You do have Frodo.fpr in your rd folder right?
You could try opening Frodo.fpr with notepad and changing SkipFrames = 2 to SkipFrames = 3.5Quote:

Hello, Friends!
What are the optimal perform settings with 1541 Emulation and 100% C64 Speed?
It's very strange that the DS obviously having problems with playing at full speed with the CPU Emulation of the 1541. My 486DX 80 few years ago played almost every game in full speed with C64S (an old C64 PC Emulator). Most games run with full Floppy Emulation perfectly with every 1st oder 2nd frame. The Nintendo DS has a CPU with 67Mhz., almost the same. Maybe there's a bit more possible with optimation in future.
And maybe an quickview option for D64 files in the browser would be very nice.:)
I'm not trying to be mean, but if you think you can port C64S or some other c64 emu that would be great. In the meantime GPF has made some great progress with this Emulator.
I don't pretend to understand DS coding but quite frankly your comments are a little offensive even to my limited intelligence. We all know the DS specs, and that FrodoDS isn't perfect, but it's damn fine work IMO.You imply that the games run slow test it some more, many games run at full speed or faster.
Me, I'm just praying GPF won't get bored with FrodoDS before Saving is implemented.
Hi there,
new to this forum and everything - hello all!
I've just got myself a M3 DS Simply with a view to downloading emulators...I've followed the DDLI link from the Wiki,scorpei.com for the Frodo emulator and downloaded it...
Now I'm not too sure what to do next - I've dragged it the contents on to my card, but when I start it up I get a Coders Competition screen up, but it doesn't go forwards to the emulator.
Really don't know much about this stuff (I'm using a Mac) so any help much appreciated.
Also can I add any .dsk files I have for the Mac C64 emulator to this, or do I need to look for specific files for Frodo?
Look forward to your replies!
I don't use MacOS but there is a DLDI drop patcher here, drag and drop the .nds file on it.
http://www.blogadresse.de/wp-content.../dldi_drop.zip
read about it here
http://www.blogadresse.de/2007/01/29...r-the-mac-way/
grab the R4/M3 Simply patch
http://chishm.drunkencoders.com/DLDI...oads/r4tf.dldi
I'm guessing you put the dldi patch in the same folder as the Drop program.
On the root of your card, there must be a folder named rd. This is where all your roms go.
Make sure you use the newest FrodoDS
http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/att...3&d=1173082251
.DSK files are not supported, So look for .d64 roms. There are converters out there to convert .dsk to .d64 btw. Furthermore you can save snapshot images in frodo for the pc and place only one in the rd folder on your card. the snapshot must be renamed to jjr.fss and it loads by pressing X I believe or Y button.
goodluck
HELLO GUYS!!!!
I am new in this forum and just today I discovered FrodoDS: it's FANTASTIC!!!!
I have just some basic questions:
1) is there a step-by-step guide or faq somewhere about frodoDS on this forum?
2)I have a ds (not lite) and I am a PC user. If I buy a M3 simply, should I be able to use frodoDS on my DS?
3)I have found this online shop:
http://www.echostore.com/game.html?g...FQHolAodqmVGDg
Which of this adapters is the right one to play C64 games on the DS?
Thanks in advance for the time guys..
Have a nice week!
Alf:D
Found this on The Hives' spectrum site.

Hopefully these people aren't cashing in on other peoples' emulators.
taken by the frenzy, I already bought the R4DS with a 1gb microSD. Did I do the right choice? Please tell me so!
I just want to play the c64 (and scummVM) on the DS...:)
It appears you did the right thing. R4 is very cool, and frodods has been reported to work on m3 simply(same thing). DLDI patch newest frodods.

RD folder must be in root of card.
frodods.nds can be anywhere.
exactly what I wanted to hear!
Thanks man, by the end of the week I'll have it! Cant wait...........:D .

btw,
what are all those patches for? Wasnt it "plug and play" with cards like the r4ds??
the patches are for filesystem access for homebrew, its supposed to allow for new hardware that comes out someone can write a dldi patcher so it will work with new hardware.
Some cards have a plug and play feature but haven't seen many that work that well yet.
Troy(GPF)
Thanks for answering GPF!
Just please tell me if I can find a step by step guide on how to apply this patches. I wouldn't want to mess up doing things in the wrong order...:D
grazie!

should help, if not someone on that thread should be able to help :)
Hi all,
Stoked on getting this thing going. I've got a DS Lite, and an M3 DS Simply with a 2 gig sd.
I've had the most luck with CrookedMouth's June 12th post and links, but I can't actually get a game running with it. I get the "?Device Not Present" error. I've tried selecting the included ROMs multiple times, with and without 'Start' button resets. I successfully DLDI patched ScummVM, and I can see the ROMs in Frodo, so I'm not sure that DLDI is the problem. Anyone else still having this problem? I look forward to hearing back. Thanks!
So you did DLDI patch frodods, correct?
hello GPF.
you have news for frodoDS?
When a new version?
thanks for answer.
Hi CrookedMouth, thanks for your reply:) . I have successfully DLDI patched FrodoDS with the links you provided. Earlier attempts with older versions without DLDI only got me as far as the Spring Coding splash page, with an error. Since I went with your 3 links, it will boot up to blue. I can view and select ROMs since the DLDI patch, but still get the "?device not present" errors. I seem to be in the same boat as Captains27. :( In my case, I'm wondering if perhaps it could have something to do with the frodo.fpr file in \rd. Specifically, these lines:
DriveType8 = D64
DrivePath8 = maniacmansion_2.d64
Maybe the Maniac Mansion reference is a leftover from someone else's edits. It shows up this way when extracted, but I'm not sure if and how I should edit it.
thanks!
Well yes, I believe that Maniac Mansion being there is the reason for having to choose the rom twice
I did this, seems to fix it.
DriveType8 = D64
DrivePath8 =
Many M3 simply users have been running FrodoDS, so we know we can get this working.
Are you able to load the snapshot image named jjr.fss?
Do you have all the system ROM images in rd folder? Like 1541 ROM and BASIC ROM
I am not able to recreate the device error.
You could try the second oldest build that a M3 simply user was using.
This is prepatched for M3 simply and doesn't utilise Frodo.fpr

Hey CrookedMouth
I believe the snapshot works. I pressed the 'x' button and got into some Jumpman Junior action. :) It ends the level with a disk error, presumably because the Jumpman disk isn't mounted, but it does seem to run. As for the system ROMs, there's all the ones that were included, 1541, basic, char and kernal, plus the game ROMS. Unfortunately, your link for the previous version doesn't seem to work, but I'll have a poke around and see if I can find one.
Many thanks!
Ok try this.
Sweet, that one works for me. Thanks chief! After all this time, I still suck at Space Taxi, though.
Guys,
Do you know why the latest build of FrodoDS is faster if you dont have the system files & FrodoDS.fpr file in your \\rd directory?
Hey GPF anychance of explaining what each setting in the .fpr are for for example the SystemMemory = FALSE (Would this make use of the sram on the supercard?)
Thanks.
Here are the docs from the pc version of Frodo
With "Sprite display", you can switch the display of sprites on and off. Turning them off speeds up the emulation a little when there are a lot of sprites on the screen.
"Sprite collisions" determines whether collisions between sprites and between sprites and graphics should be detected. Turning off collisions will make you invincible in some games (sadly, your enemies are likely to become invincible, too :-/.
"Joystick on Port 1/2" specifies on which ports you have real joysticks connected (as opposed to the joystick emulation on the numerical keypad). Joysticks are only supported under BeOS, Linux, RiscOS and AmigaOS (only one joystick). The port numbers relate to the host machine ports. On the BeBox, port 1 is the upper one and port 2 the lower one. You should only turn on the ports to which you have actually joysticks connected, or the keyboard will behave erratically. Frodo has an automatic joystick calibration. If you plug in a new joystick or change the joystick settings, you should first move the joystick once in each direction.
With "Swap joysticks" you can swap the assignment of the joystick ports of the host machine to the C64 ports without having to plug out and in your joysticks. E.g. if a C64 game is using a joystick on C64 port 1 you can simply activate "Swap joysticks" and use a joystick in port 2 on your machine to play the game.
When the field "Limit speed" is active, the emulation is slowed down when its relative speed exceeds 100%. If you set the value in "Every (n)th frame" so that the speed is just over 100% and activate the speed limiter, the emulation always runs at the original C64 speed, with the highest possible precision.
With the setting "Fast Reset" you can disable the memory test that is normally performed by the C64 on a reset. Under emulation, the memory test is not necessary and the reset (F12) becomes much faster when it is disabled.
The setting "Clear CIA ICR on write" is necessary to make some programs (such as the games "Gyruss" and "Motos") run that would otherwise hang in an endless interrupt loop because they use an unusual technique to acknowledge CIA interrupts (sometimes even without the programmer knowing it). It should normally be turned off.
The "SID Filters" field enables the emulation of the SID filters. The sound emulation is slightly faster, but worse, when the filters are disabled.
"Doublescan lines" is only available under BeOS for the "Screen" display type. It removes the black lines between scanlines, but makes the emulation a bit slower.
"Cycles per line (CPU)" and "Cycles per Bad Line (CPU)" set the number of clock cycles available to the CPU per normal raster line and per Bad Line. If a program is showing flickering lines or graphical flaws you should try to slightly alter both values. For "Bruce Lee" you must enter "62" for the "Cycles per line (CPU)".
With "Cycles per line (CIA)" you can control the speed of the CIA timers. Entering a higher value increases the frequency of cursor blinking and key repeat. Some programs don't run correcly with the default value (e.g. "Ballblazer" which needs a value of 65).
"Cycles per line (1541)" sets the number of cycles available to the 1541 processor emulation per raster line. There is normally no need to change this value. This setting has no effect if 1541 processor emulation is turned off.
The settings for the four "cycles" coming closest to an original PAL C64 are (63, 23, 63, 64).
With "Draw every n-th frame" you can select if Frodo should skip frames when displaying the C64 graphics. The normal setting is "1", that is, every frame (every simulated raster beam sweep) is recalculated. If you change this to "2", for example, then only every second frame is calculated, immensely speeding up the display, though some raster effects may look a bit jerky. This setting can also be changed while the emulation is running with the '+' and '-' keys on the numerical keypad.
"Display type" is only available under BeOS. You can choose between running the emulation in a window or in full-screen mode (using the Game Kit).
The "SID emulation type" controls the sound emulation and has two settings: "None" and "Digital". "None" means no sound (faster), "Digital" turns on the digital sound emulation (only available under BeOS, Linux and HP-UX). Future versions of Frodo may support more emulation types such as the use of a real SID chip on an expansion card or across a network.
"REU size" sets the size of the REU (RAM Expansion Unit) emulated by Frodo or turns the REU emulation off ("None"). Only few programs actually use the REU (operating systems like ACE and GEOS, and some utilities).
In the box "Drives", there are four rows, each corresponding to one of four emulated 1541 drives with the drive numbers 8, 9, 10 and 11. For every drive, there is a popup control, a path entry field and a button:
With the popup control, you select the emulation mode of the respective disk drive (for more detailed information, see here). There are three choices: "Dir", "D64" and "T64". "Dir" emulates the drive in a directory of the BeOS/Unix file system. "D64" accesses a .d64 or x64 disk image file. "T64" is the setting for accessing a .t64 or C64 LYNX archive file.
The path entry field holds either the path name of the directory for the "Dir" mode, the path name of the .d64/x64 image file for the "D64" mode, or the path name of the .t64/LYNX archive file for the "T64" mode. Under BeOS, you may also drop Tracker icons to the entry field.
The button labeled "B" opens a file panel/requester for a more comfortable selection of directories and .d64/x64/.t64/LYNX files.
With "Map '/' <-> '\' in file names" you control whether the '/' in C64 filenames will be translated to '\' and vice versa for "Dir" mode drives. The '/' character is used to access subdirectories under BeOS/Unix, but as the C64 doesn't have subdirectories, it's a valid part of a C64 file name. This is a problem if a program wants to create a file with '/' in it as BeOS/Unix would interpret the part before the '/' as a directory name and, finding no such directory, would return an error and the operation would fail. Now simply activate this gadget and all '/'s will transparently be translated into '\', so in directory listings the '/' will still appear. If you turn off this option, you can of course use the '/' to access files in subdirectories from the C64.
If "Enable 1541 processor emulation" is turned on, the four emulated 1541s are disabled and replaced by a single 1541 emulation (drive 8) that only operates on .d64/x64 files, but emulates the 1541 processor and is compatible with about 50% of all fast loaders. However, it slows down the emulation considerably. If you have a .d64 with a program that doesn't load with the normal emulation (see above), you may have better luck with the 1541 processor emulation instead. The path name of the disk image file to be used must be entered into the path entry field of drive 8.
Some of the feature are probably slightly different or nonexistent on my ds port but should give you a general overview.
Troy(GPF)
Once again thanks Troy! that helps alot. This is the best emulator on DS IMHO. The day that savestates or save to dsk becomes available I will pass out with ecstasy.
I cant wait to be able to play the Hobbit and the Pawn and the rest of the Magnetic Scrolls adventures and be able to save my progress!
Thanks Again,
You Rock GPF!!!!!!
excellent emulator. anyone got turrican past the title screen, cant find that fire button anywhere. lol
I've been reading this thread quite thoroughly, and yet, even after trying pretty much everything that was discussed here, I'm still getting a "Device Not Present" error.
I have an R4DS with a 1 gb microSD card. I've downloaded the FrodoDS with the link that crookedmouth provided, patched it with DLDI with the link he provided as well, and even deleted the maniac mansion part on frodo.fpr (it was mentioned in a previous post), and yet it still says that the device isn't present.
Haha... I'm sorry if I seem a little bit frustrated. I have been working on this for what seems like hours, and I haven't come up with a solution. My favorite game of all time for the Commodore 64 is Demon Stalkers, and I'd love to play it on my DS, haha. Oh, and I also downloaded that FrodoDSM3simply file that doesn't utilize the Frodo.fpr file, and I have still been recieving the error. Haha... I'm totally out of options (and really close to ripping my hair out, lol). Can anyone help, please?
Nevermind... I'm dumb, haha.
I figured it out... the rd folder goes into the main menu (which is what you guys meant by root folder... hahaha). Thanks!!
(Demon Stalkers just doesn't work now... hahaha)
HI,im kinda new to this and i am confused so bad.
i have a lexar ll platinum flashcard BTW
when i boot the frodoDS,it starts perfectly fine, then it shows a blue screen saying;commodore64 basic
then on the bottom says ready, which lets me type.
how do i boot ROMS?where can i find them
will someone be generous to help me :)
my Email is
[email protected]
take a look here a great site dedicated to the c64 http://www.lemon64.com/
OK, I new to this, but I downloaded the FrodoDS NDS file and the src files, copied them all to my SD card, then made a folder called rd in the root and copied over a few .D64 roms..but when I load the FrodoDS rom it says it cant find the directory or any ROMS?? Whats wrong??
thank you thank you!!
make sure and dldi patch the nds file for your card type or check http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/sho...&postcount=302
maybe it can help?
Troy(GPF)
Thanks for your hard work. It runs on CycloDS Evolution with some very little glitches but it is fine anyway.
I try your emulator last year on a G6 and i just finish reading this thread now. I tested so far the Hobbit and Bagitman - two of my old favs ever - and I have to check more ... keep up the GOOD work and a BIG Thanks ;)
