GPU is generally the acronym for Graphics Processing Unit. Perhaps with the PSP, the ME or kernel will be tapped into for a GPU.

A GPU will improve performance & speed because it will ease the burden on the PSP's CPU. So between overclocking the PSP's CPU to 333 Mhz and having a GPU, this should give pretty good performance if optimized right.

And if a dynarec is able to be implemented, look out because this EMU will be the next best thing since........ well, the PSP itself LOL.
