Yes The Hobbit very good game but works best with some sort of saving (hint! hint! GPF).

For those people who are trying to patch this emu for your R4, dont! you DON'T need to patch this emu for it to work on an R4
I made a folder called games on my Kingston 1gb microSD card then all I did was copied FrodoDS.nds into the games folder I just made.
The rd folder goes the same place as where I just created my games folder. Thats it that all you have to do and it does work on R4, I have a little question though if anyone can help. It's an excellent emulator, I was enjoying a Bombjack session earlier, but is there anyway to speed the gameplay up as its a tad on the slow side.
Thanks for a great upcoming c64 ds emu :D
In Frodo.fpr frame skip is set to 2. You could try raising it a bit. I use 3 and don't really know what setting it above 4 would do, but you could try.
Some games just run slower, like Repton by Synapse.
open Frodo.fpr with a text editor
and change the following setting.
SkipFrames = 2
I just checked that and it was already on skipframes 2 so do I change it to skip frames 4 maybe?
I just tried that it was a bit fast and choppy lol so I set it to 3 and now thats an acceptable speed without the framerates being too noticable.
Hopefully as the emulator reaches later stages it should become smoother :)
if you dont use the fpr file the default is frameskip 3 which troy explained earlier. This seems to be the best all round setting you could also try turning off 1541 emulation.
If "Enable 1541 processor emulation" is turned on, the four emulated 1541s are disabled and replaced by a single 1541 emulation (drive 8) that only operates on .d64/x64 files, but emulates the 1541 processor and is compatible with about 50% of all fast loaders. However, it slows down the emulation considerably. If you have a .d64 with a program that doesn't load with the normal emulation (see above), you may have better luck with the 1541 processor emulation instead. The path name of the disk image file to be used must be entered into the path entry field of drive 8.
Returned to this to try again. The lure of some classic gaming I think!
Anyway, I've tried many ways to get it to work on my M3 SD (see previous messages). Tried it (030507) out of the box, DLDI patched with M3 SD, DLDI patched with "M3 SD ALT" all to no avail. Either I get the coding compo screen at the top and a white screen at the bottom, or I get an enlarged C64 boot screen. Wither way I can't do much else.
Now an update. If I launch the DLDI M3 SD patched version from within DSOrganise it boots and allows me to navigate through my files, including the RD folder with the C64 roms in. Result! However once in there it shows a screenshot of a strange platform game on the top screen (not one of my roms!) and nothing else works. There are no options screens or anything.
Some people mentioned using the left trigger to open a rom "twice" but for me the left trigger just navigates its way up the file structure, and the right trigger navigated down the file structure. Is that a DSOrganise thing?
So I'm sort of getting something, but not a working C64 emulator just yet! Any ideas? (and what is that platform game screen thing all about?)
That is Jumpman Junior , it is the included snapshot that comes with FrodoDS I believe. By pressing the "X" button you load a snapshot. It can be any snapshot if you rename it jjr.fss.
DSOrganize is not the culprit here, I just tried it.
edit: I attached the second newest build and it is prepatched with the regular M3 Adapter SD dldi(not the alt), this helped one guy who was having no luck getting FrodoDS working, but he was using the M3 Simply. Worth a try.
Cheers. I'll give it a go. Also thanks for the jumpman explanation!
Sadly no difference. Under the default M3 loader I get just the compo screen top and white screen bottom. Launched from DSOrganize I get the file menu, but as soon as I choose any rom by pressing the A button I get a frozen jumpman screen.
I wonder if this is an indication of a problem with my M3 SD? Some DLDI patched stuff works fine (SNESDS, NESDS, DSOrganize) but FrodoDS and Lameboy are just refusing to even start unless I go via DSOrganize (in DSO it says it launches with Chism's loader)
Hello guys...just wanted to give some feedback, and perhaps receive hints :D
After 4 hours spent to read whole the topic, I managed to run my beloved game "Terry's Big Adventure", a sweet childhood memory... :)
I have a DSLite with M3 Simply with latest 1.07 firmware. I downloaded latest FrodoDS and patched with correct dldi, then I tried to run with the right trigger, but it said that the device was not ready.
So I wrote LOAD"t*",8,1 (with the initian "T") and it found it, so I was able to run.
The problem is that it goes VERY SLOWY, pratically isn't possibile to play.
I tried editing Frodo.fpr with the values suggested in past post (sorry can't find it now..) but the result was still a very slow gamespeed.
I will really appreciate some hints to finally enjoy this masterpiece (at least for me!:p ).
Thanks guys and thanks GPF for this emulator!

I'm afraid that some games just run too slow to play. You'll have to try some different roms, but some of my favorites play with playable speeds. Like Impossible Mission, Toy Bizarre for instance. Most that I play have decent speed but some just don't. We can pray that there is still some more optimization of speed, but even without Frodods is awesome.
I'm a little puzzled why no more speed can be squeezed out of Frodo DS to make this run full speed on the DS. It's a C64 for christ-sake, the DS should be able to run at 50x the speed and performance of the original C64 machine.
Why is the DS struggling?
I would have thought the developer would have to slow it down rather than try and speed it up.
Guess it comes down to how well the code is written...... I guess.
Are there any better C64 emulators that can be ported to the NDS which might yield a better performance than Frodo.
You just cant play the games at any decent speed, and when the screen gets busy it really chugs!
If an Atari ST can be emulated on the DS at decent speeds a C64 should run like a friggin' Ferrari!
yay, finally got turrican II to work. still a bit slow, but still playable. really need a update to this brilliant emu.
ok last week I found some time to work on FrodoDS again, and have added .t64 support, I tested it on my supercard sd with a couple different .t64 files.
Let me know how it works for you.
Thanks,
Troy(GPF)
I'm trying now, all I get is a blue screen. Shouldn't LOAD work? I forget. Thanks for the update.
I forgot to test just load, Frodo emulates .t64 as disk images which is why it was difficult to get working -untill i saw how the gp32 port did it :)
so I tested
LOAD"$',8 LIST
LOAD"*",8,1 RUN
and pressing the right trigger to load from the .t64 image.
Troy(GPF)
Hmm, I'm getting the ?DEVICE NOT PRESENT ERROR no matter what I do.Did you change something in the preference file? FrodoDS sees the .T64 files fine.
While I'm on on that subject, can you please remove the maniacmansion_2.d64 from the drive path in Frodo.fpr, of futer uploads?
DrivePath8 = maniacmansion_2.d64
This is what causes the need to select the .D64 twice when you first start up. That usually confuses people who are new to frodoDS. Just a suggestion. :)
I'm seriously not trying to be pushy or anything. Can you please throw me a bone about what the feasibility of saving to disk is in the future. I just mean if you believe it will eventually make it into FrodoDS?
Thanks again GPF, for paying attention to FrodoDS with everything else your working on.
I also get a blue screen. If i remember correctly, you load a tape by holding down shift then press run/stop. Or you could type LOAD"",1. Neither of these seem to work on my G6lite. Oh well, nevermind. Keep up the good work.
Ok, after hours of looking through my rom collection, I've found a .T64 file which works. Bombjack. Anybody else found which other .t64 files work. It be nice to have a compatibility list, can't wait for future releases.
Hello,
I have a question about the size of the C64 screen on DS.
Can we reach a correct ratio 320/200, with the Frodo.fpr ?
For example with this settings (actually it isn't working) :
ViewPort = 320x200
DisplayMode = 320x200x16
...
DisplayType = WINDOW
I don't now if it's possible to you to do this on the DS....but i'm interested by a correct ratio.
Luc
Frodo actually uses a screen size of 384X272 with around a 40pixel border on each side.
so what I currently have to use a 512X512 background, which i then scale and shift so that more of the screen shows and only a little bit of the border.
I've been looking at a couple of other frodo ports that seem to use a 320X200 screen and see if I can add/change my code to use that.
Troy(GPF)
I wonder if it is my hardware?
Anyone else getting device not present error?
Hi guys !
I checked the Symbian version of Frodo on my Mobile N70 . It is very fast and nice sounds .
But the keyboard and the joystick is bad cause of mobile keyboard .
I hope GPF you are still fighting with the code on DS .
Please keep on working , I think your DS version of frodo is the best .
Thank you .
I have the latest version of Frodo and have alter ego on my R4 in the /rd folder, they are in d64 format, how gdo I get them to run?
Thanks a lot
...and a big BIG thanks for the quality of your work.
Sorry, I was away for a day.
I'm afraid it is any .T64 I use. The .D64 files still load but any .T64 gives me a ?Device not Present error.Frodo now sees them in the menu.
It's like Frodo doesn't think I have a Tape drive?
All I did was drop the new FrodoDS onto my card and of course DLDI patched it, am I not doing something else?
I can still send you what I'm using but I'm reasonably sure it's all .t64s that won't load.
This is on both MMD and GnM, maybe it's a "Datel" thing.
I was hoping to run some tapes on my favorite Emulator but it seriously could be my hardware.
Thanks again.
Downloaded the latest version of FrodoDS and created a dir in root /rd, placed some roms (including the ones included with the frodo zip) but I get device not present on all of them :S
I believe the roms included are snapshots of the games. you have to rename the one you want to play to jjr, then press x to load. Are the roms you placed in the /rd folder zipped or .t64, they want play. you have to have .d64 filetype. Regards to .t64 rom files, there are only a few which works at the mo, most will display the device not present. The only .t64 files i got to work are Bombjack and JoeGunn.
great emu, GPF!
is there any way to choose a different loadstate or can you only choose jjr.fss?
As well any chance to update the sourcecode on your site with the latest version? the one on there is pretty old
thanks!
I am using FrodoDs, latest version DLDI patched for R4, I am puttting 'Alter Ego' both versions in the /rd folder, I can the select the .d64 rom and run it by typing LOAd but I get a pale blue screen like the original C64, if I press anything I come back to the menu with an error? Any ideas, I really want this to run.
Following on from anthonyharris's message a few days ago checked a few *.t64 files last night and these worked for me using the newest version:
Doomdark's Revenge
Driller
Finders Keepers
Gribbly's Day Out
Microprose Soccer
On Court Tennis 2
Out Run
Pole Position (Atari)
Starglider
Way Of The Exploding Fist
Wonderboy
Just remembered to mention these loaded using the right shoulder button load method.
I was getting worried recently that this project was dead, glad to see things are still being worked on - thanks GPF!
A load more games for you to check out..
Paperboy
Powerdrift
Bruce Lee
and finally..Turrican 2, fully playable
Anybody wanting to play Turrican 2, there was only one version i found, after months of searching, which works. here it is. also, i use frameskip = 3 for an almost perfect play experience, enjoy
