some dude had an animated one a while ago, and it was of mario and peach...ahem, fornicating.
I don't like them, myself. We disallow them as well at DSR.com too.
Then again, we disallow these big ass gaudy sig blocks too. Nothing pisses me off more than long load times and scrolling to see a 3 sentance discussion thread.

The options must have been altered in the transition to a newer version of VB. I remember having an animated Sonic avatar back when I first registered at DCemu.
At any rate you should be able to upload an animated avatar now. :D
I've been using this one over at The Playground, looks like I'm giving Kaiser a run for his money! :)
EDIT: This post won't make sence now, at the time my avatar was a GIF of sonic running.
