Got my Sony card from ebay - £70 and no import fees or VAT.

if i wasn't planning on saving and buyin a new computer
i wud buy a 2 gig (or atleast a one)- got 2 512 sticks...and its a real pain to always having to swap them....

14.3 MB/sec read, 4.3MB/s write with the PSP.
It is slightly less in write speed than the 1GB ones (~5MB/s).
It is still significantly faster than the HighSpeed Sony ones (10MB/sec read, 1.5MB/sec write).
No statistical data available on reliability yet.

Personally, I'd say that a new computer is going to be more valuable and a better purchase, however.. I'm curious as to what kind of computer you're looking at. o_O $100USD is, while a fair chunk of money to some of us (namely, poor college students), only part of the way there to a "new computer". Regardless, unless you're on the go alot and the 2GB would do alot for you, I think the computer's a better choice.
However, if you're intent on the card, maybe you can look into upgrading your current PC (buy more RAM, swap the motherboard, maybe a new processor, a new vid-card, etc) as well as buying the card. It won't be as much of an improvement, but it'll still be something. ^_^
