DC Ebook: Alice in Wonderland
Our good friends over at DC Evolution have posted this excellent and rather unique release news.[br][br] Here is another novelty release from DC Evolution made by DCDayDreamer. It is the first e-book for the Dreamcast containing the classic Alice in Wonderland. This time we used the DC Tonic menu to bring you this unique release. In this way we could bring you the complete book including the original illustrations made by John Tenniel for Alice in Wonderland. To make the ebook complete we added some classical background music.[br][br]For more information, screenshots and downloads see the DC Ebook: Alice in Wonderland page! [br][br]Excellent Idea :)

Re: DC Ebook: Alice in Wonderland
is there not a legal problem with this, giveing away someones book for free without premission? (not trying to start a fight, just wondering)

Re: DC Ebook: Alice in Wonderland
Darksaviour69: If you downloaded the image and read you'll find all the info on the CD.
OK, so I'm presuming your not going to, so...
The book was written in 1865 (yes it's that old), copyrights on the book are no longer a concern, same for the original art (also included). There's plenty of info on the web if you want to check.
Now if I release my DC EBook: Lord Of The Rings...
that would be a different matter (and a 400mb plus download) ;).

Re: DC Ebook: Alice in Wonderland
ahh i was wondering myself but i knew that dcevolution wouldnt do any dodgy stuff.
makes you wonder what other quality ebooks are of no copyright concern for future releases for dcevo.

Re: DC Ebook: Alice in Wonderland
This really has a nice presentation. Ebooks definately need more attention. Any chance of doing more of them? I would love to see an Ebook of the Bible. Since it doesn't take up much room it would be really nice to have more than one translation of the Bible on a DC Ebook as well.
Thanks for the Alice book I like it.

Re: DC Ebook: Alice in Wonderland

Re: DC Ebook: Alice in Wonderland
Well, another personal favourite and all time classic is 'The Wizard of OZ'.
I've got a version similar to the Alice in Wonderland release, but it'd need some reworking for a DC Evolution release if there was enough interest.

Re: DC Ebook: Alice in Wonderland
too right there is :)
do it :)
can you get spanish/french/german versions of the film too ?

Re: DC Ebook: Alice in Wonderland
Ah! Here is the discussion of this wonderfull release. A real advantage for ebooks on the Dreamcast is the possibility to add just the right music to the book. I don't see that happening on the PC or a Palm.
Kuddos to DCDayDreamer who really worked long on getting this good. The DC Tonic menu was the perfect choice to do this, he even tried Dream Inducer for this project.

Re: DC Ebook: Alice in Wonderland
The DC Tonic menu is this open source can you compile it or is it ripped. Ive never seen it before.. i think it was a big download once i could not get.
Any way in a way whisper secrets is an interactive E book of a story i wrote.

Re: DC Ebook: Alice in Wonderland
Maybe just me but reading a tv screen hurts the hell out of my eyes :(
-
Re: DC Ebook: Alice in Wonderland
Its funny but since i started using my GBASP and a flash cart ive never done so much reading.
I prefer it to a book.

Re: DC Ebook: Alice in Wonderland
The DC Tonic was not recompiled. We used the existing files and to be sure we could use this, we asked Dan Potter for permission.
And a good 100 Hz tv doesn't hurt your eyes when reading. Maybe it's also because I'm very used reading text on a tv trough the many subtitles we have here.

Re: DC Ebook: Alice in Wonderland
does ztnet still allow the download?
one of my reeasons for having this site was to ensure another good mirror for homebrew stuff.
-
Re: DC Ebook: Alice in Wonderland
Nope, looks like the DC Tonic downloads aren't working, which is weird because I've been upping stuff that's over 15MB to the FTP & those downloads are still working fine. Guess I might need to do some sneaky file splitting. ;)

Re: DC Ebook: Alice in Wonderland

Re: DC Ebook: Alice in Wonderland

[/quote]That would be sweetI believe he was actually referring to the book Ulysses by James Joyce. For some reason, some people refer to that novel as "Bloomsday", which is addressed in this quote from Amazon.com
Quote:
which some friends sent him in honor of `Bloomsday,' as the day of Ulysses was already called
I don't think Ulysses could be done, though, because I don't believe it is public domain. James Joyce is a twentieth century author, and the novel was published in 1922. I don't know whether that means it's PD or not, but I would assume it's not.
I heard a piece on NPR (National Public Radio) the other day on this book. Apparently it is quite a classic. It is currently being made into a book on tape, with a huge cast of people (almost like a radio drama, I think). It apparently uses a very unique dialect (not as much so as Clockwork Orange, but the dialect and Joyce's method of writing make it a difficult read), and is a modern-day version of The Oddyssey.
I am guessing this would be an incredibly large project, though, because the book on tape is supposedly 49 hours long.

Re: DC Ebook: Alice in Wonderland
Oh - and I just realized that the sequel to Alice In Wonderland is called Through The Looking Glass (can't believe I forgot that).
Anyway - I remember watching a TV movie of Alice In Woderland when I was a kid, and it included Through The Looking Glass. That was a freaky story when I was a kid. I don't know if it still would be or not. It would be interesting to see (methinks it's time to head to the library to see if there is an audio book of Through The Looking Glass, so I can listen to it on my way to and from work).
Of course, if this e-book thing starts to take off, and someone figures out some sort of template to make it easy to create one, it would be cool to see some Orwell books added to the library as well (although, as mentioned above when speaking of Ulysses, there may be copyright issues with Orwell's novels as well).

Re: DC Ebook: Alice in Wonderland
I think it would be cool to see the sequel to Alice In Wonderland (The Jabberwock, or whatever it was called). This e-book is really cool. I am really enjoying reading this book on my Dreamcast.

That would be fantastic!
And I agree with Curt, there should be a template for this (maybe comparable to SBInducer) so anyone could do a similar thing.
