Kid Wanted DS, Got a Rock

This sounds like something my Dad would do, just to watch me lose my shit. However, it's real. A 16-year-old unboxed his birthday present DS to find nothing but rocks and Chinese newspaper.

Because she's a cool mom, Jody Wykle, of Lake Wales, Fla., gave her son Guitar Hero: On Tour even though he didn't have a DS, just so she could make the guy squirm while she played clueless. Then, surprise! She handed over the DS - a sealed box, mind you - and when he opened it, things got unintentionally a lot worse.

"When he opened it, he was like, 'A box of rocks?'" Wykle told WTSP-TV. "He said, 'Mom, that ain't a joke.'"

Indeedy not, especially for a $138 handheld. She went back to Walmart, which gave her the not-our-problem treatment - until Ms. Wykle called in the media, at which point it became very much their problem. They refunded the DS and shelled out a gift card.

Before getting the refund, Wykle bought a second DS, just so her son could have a proper birthday present. "I made them open it while I was there to make sure there was a DS in it," she told WTSP.

Here's the kicker: Seems that box of rocks had been returned before.

When i was younger i used to keep things for 10 months then return them as faulty and get a replacement, i once replaced a kettle for 3 years running, but i'd never be stupid enough to try that.

lmao whoever refunded the box must have wtched Hotel for Dogs lmfao, or Walmart is being greedy those bastards, this isnt first time this happen, recently a kid found porn on his psp which he got from Walmart lmao

I once bought a DVD-rw from walmart and got a CD burner in it. At the time, I worked there. I brought it in, and was told by other workers not to tell them that it was just a CD burner, or else they won't replace it. So, I just refuned it, and got a different one.

Remember kids, if they rip you off tell the media and every thing should be okay. Wal mart is greedy and they put 3.00 dollar clearance items under 10.00 dollar signs their so stupid. :P

TBH I don't think anyone there is paid enough to care- while I was in the states I bought a memory card for my GC it was locked to the shelf and none of the workers noticed it was an empty (somebody had cut out the actual memory card) until we pointed it out at the checkout.

They were great people as well, I just guess morale is at rock bottom.

Uh man, that's a sick joke, having rocks in a box instead of a Nintendo DS. Even more astounding that it happened before with the same fake box.

My brother also got scammed once he ordered a mobile phone from the internet.
When he got it it was dirty, it had fingerprints on it and the headset was missing so he send it back and he got a new one with a headset and it was clean without fingerprints.

Oh yeah I sooo know what you mean I got my ds and I got finger prints all over the R L A B and start buttons. And I didn't get that 90 day warentty either they truly need to make an unscratchible screen like you could scrape it with a bread knife and it wouldn't leave a mark.

Like the iphone or ipod touch?
They should do that with all consoles.:(
Although you can't use a stylus on those screens only if you have a human finger as a stylus. XD
I also got my Ds screen and flashcard so badly damaged that i want a new one but i'm not going to buy a new one. :P
