PSX D-Pad in a PSP!?! - It wasn't that hard.

Hey there just wanted to tell the world about my new modifacation I did to my PSP. Well after giving up attempting any more fighting games for PSP I got thinkin "Man this D-Pad is about as useful as my old f*#t up NES. And about as much fun too."

Well using dust particles as a good enough excuse to remove the faceplate I began. (5 easy to find screws only one was a light silver color.)

Now I had my old psp 'dpad' outta there.
Next I opened up my PSX pad and realized something.

That is sure not going to fit in my psp... At least not the bottom.

So after a few hours/day of rubbing the bottom against a metal file, I managed to get it feeling the proper way! The right directional gave me a little trouble. The right dbutton is filed differently than the others.

Now I have my best 'd-pad' for fight-games on my psp.
Personally I'd like a sanwa arcade stick but obviously that would be kinda lame for a psp.

Diffiicult jumps to ladders and Hadou-Kin's are now pulled off effortlessly.

I can't believe what a MASSIVE difference a tiny basic design flaw can be.
I'll relase a faq or something with pictures l8r.

I thought the D-pads were the same

I "fixed" my psp dpad a long time ago using the "tape trick" I found on the gamespot boards.

Yeah those scratches look naaasty! lol but all in all good work! Looks great too! ;)

Believe it or not that's just dirt. I have some REAL bad gouges in my screen but they dont really show up there. I took that picture in complete darkness, using only the power light as my guide.

I did almost everything there, I didn't have the hot glue or the nes sleeve.

The NES sleeve idea appeals to me as it keeps the asthetics of the PSP D-pad while increasing it's functionality. Nice find and thanks for the link.

I did the fix Napalm-Death posted 4 weeks ago and it's absolutely worth it.
you now can play games like Street Fighter (or even Shoot'em Ups) with the D-Pad like on the original console.

And even for games like Civilization on the SNES it's very useful. you can navigate precisely in every one of the 8 directions.
