If you have a TA-082 motherboard you cannot downgrade. To find out if you have one, open your UMD drive and look in the top right corner where you see a little green. If there is writing there, then it's a TA-082. If there is no writing, then you can downgrade. ;)
there is no writing on the right hand side but there is on the left and side
am i ok?
Yes. If it's on the top left hand side, your OK. I'm happy that you'll be able to downgrade. :)
Wait a sec i thought the writing was always on the right or none at all.Quote:

If the writing is on the top left side, then it's ok. ;) Check your PSP Acidburn05.

I'm 100% sure you don't have a TA-082. ;)

A friend of mine who is a web designer has a virgin 1.00, although its as annoying as hell since the X and O buttons are swapped. :(Quote:

did anyone actually answer the question of what a factory 2.6 is?
if not its basically a new psp with 2.6 firmware when bought from shop, why this would be un-degradeable i dont know (unless it was a new psp with 2.6 firmware and the cursed TA-0082 motherboard)
as for the 'only virgin 1.0 and 1.5 have no writing in the disk tray' my psp was a virgin 2.01 with no writing in the disk tray (English - got at christmas, just as the official sony shop sold their last 3 for £500 each and every other shop recieved there orders)
The new factory 2.6 PSP's usually have TA-082 motherbaords, which can't be downgraded.
yeah so any psp you buy now will prob have 2.6 installed in it and will have TA-082 MotherBoard Which can Brick your psp so just make sure you dont have writing like ICI-0000 around that.. if you do you call always sell it or trade it..
yep iv definiently dont have 2.6 ta 08 2 model im in the all clear
I thought the TA 082 board was only sold in Japan?
Everywhere in the world. The new ones are all pretty much TA-082's.Quote:

If the code "IC1003" appears on the right (red circle on photo), your mother board is a TA-082. You WILL NOT be able to use the Undiluted Platinum modchip in your PSP.
If the code "IC6001" appears on the left (blue circle on photo), you have a TA-081 motherboard, and you WILL be able to use the modchip.
If there is some other code, you have another motherboard model, and you WILL be able to use the modchip.
The PSP in the photo is a TA-081 model, with the code "IC6001" on the right side, in the blue circle. It's difficult to see, with only the tops of the letters and numbers visible in the photo.
