IGN Playstation Boss Slags down Wii

Heres what Juan Castro of IGN said about Wii:

“How is the Wii the only right choice for gamers? Contrary to what you believe, Wii games for the most part ignore “hardcore” gamers. Just look at its lineup. It’s filled with games like Elebits, Super Monkey Ball, Duck Hunt and Excite Truck. It has a handful of promising games, take Super Mario Galaxy and Wario Ware, but the rest hardly qualify as harcore, if that’s the point you want to make. Hell, even its best games, like Mario, Zelda and Metroid, wouldn’t really qualify as hardcore.”

“The Wii may outsell it (PS3) at launch, but no one cares about those numbers…With the Wii, on the other hand, developers hesitate calling it a next-gen system now, which isn’t so hot…and this is something both hardcore and casual gamers will definitely notice.”

What exactly qualifies a game as "hardcore"
I mean mario has been around for ages and is part of most serious gamers libraries, not to mention zelda.

Also how can you judge a software library that hasn't come out yet? Has he played all of the Wii games in development? I agree sour grapes

A game like Duck Hunt is going to attract a huge crowd of hardcore fans who have been playing since the NES... what a jackass.

Someone on the NGamer forum made a good point. "Considering that the PS3 is officially a multimedia device, and not a games console, how does a comment like that make sense?"

haha here are some of the games coming out for wii....if these dont appeal to hardcore gamers i dont know what will. and remember this is a list of 3rd party developers theres something here for everyone at half the price of the ps3 not counting all of nintendo's 1st party games. =D cant wait till i can actually play it.

my definition of hardcore is those people with more time to spend in front of a tv screen and play games than working/socialising/sleeping/eating/drinking...you get the point.

i was close to being one of them (in the cs scene) and first hand witnessed those loosers. by god im glad i didnt become that.

i think by spurning the hardcore gamer they have a damn good chance of getting the regular people to play it, and because these people are regular there also much nicer people.

so what hes saying is:

old-school game series are not "hardcore" but a system that plays MP3s and movies and costs an arm and a leg is? -_-; sour-est grapes in the world.

Don't be so hard on the guy. After all because of the Wii he may not have a job in a few more years... I imagine the IGN Dreamcast boss wouldn't have much liked Sony either. ;)

Funny, I diddn't know classic gaming didn't qualify as hardcore. I guess today's hardcore gamers will be mainstream for the HardgameVR Ultra-Graphix 3000G crowd of tomorrow.

I didnt know this was even a title for the WII. And i agree with you im a big MMRPG and SHOOTER game fan and if i wasent buying the WII witch i am. This title definately will make me buy it.

The Duck Hunt demo we saw at E3 is now officialy part of another compliation a lot like WiiSports.
