Sonys PSone Emu .........Time for the Hombrew Scene to Show Sony How Its Done

Ok we all knew it was coming but who was a tad annoyed when you found out you need a PS3 before your gonna get PS1 games on your PSP.

So you need a PSP ($199), Mem Card ($100), PS3 ($600 if your lucky) and the cost of the games ($5-$10)

Over 900 Dollars to play PSone on your PSP from new. Thank God we have a great homebrew scene.

Sony messed up again, now its time to encourage those Devs with the tools to develop a PSone emu for free.

Now i do know of a great Coder (Who Knows his PSX Emulators) who is looking to develop a PSone emu for the PSP but doesnt own a PSP and the PSP would need to be a v1.5, so if any of you have a spare one even if its got a dead UMD drive and is that firmware then PM me and ill give you details. (serious people only)

i would have gladly mailed you a spare psp, But sadly i traded it in since i already have another :(

What happened to AC, I wish i could here his thoughts on the sony's ps1 emu on the psp

Is yoshi finished dev on his ps1 emu. I think all it takes is to decript the 3.0 firmware's ps1 emu and use that as the basis for a new ps1 emu (homebrew). I could be wrong.

Damn,I just got rid of a spare 1.5 with a broken umd drive.Now I wish I hadn't.Sorry.

I'm gonna check EBAY to see what is available. They usually have PSP's with brokien UMD's for around 50$ (U.S.). I also say we start a fund and see how much we can get.

I only have my own. >_> How do you bust the UMD drive? O.o

The broken umd drive I had resulted from a drop of a few feet :(

Well its true that the SONY PS1 EMU is less exciting than we had anticipated. The videos I've seen show the PS1 games running really good but I don't think 500MB file sizes make it that convenient, among other things.

It would be good to organize a donation for coders and big projects but most people don't donate.

It is clear that PSP homebrew has become such a phenomenon that it deserves a homebrew PS1 Emulator. Not to mention the pleasure it will give is all to stick it to SONY.

Do you want to pay $5 per each game for the Sony emu or just a couple dollars for a homebrew emu with better features, free games, and the relinquishment of all of your other homebrew? Edit: Actually I don't think I would like the relinquishment of all of my homebrew. I would prefer the salvation of it!

Uhh, "relinquish" means "give up." I would hope that the new emulator wouldn't make us give up our homebrew.

If there were a paypal account listed here in a post from Wraggster, I would give a few bucks.

Anyone know when Yoshi plans to add the Dynarec engine to PSX-P? Also when I play RE2 I can't aim my gun to shoot the zombies, what's the aiming button (I tried everything!?)? I just keep dying after trying to RUN past every zombie.

because to be honest, a policy as stupid as requiring a ps3 deserves to end in piracy

I too would send one but neither of my two fit the description. I got a 3.0 and a 2.71 Se-B'' (soon C)

But if the coder wants I can test it for him (my 2.71 runs in 1.5 kernal or i can easly downgrade to 1.5 through recovery mode, i think)

The problem with ps1 and N64 emulators is that coders don't have time to always work on them and then discontinue them because they lose interest leaving us with half ass emulators.

That's true. If I donate my money to someone then they had better actually do the emulator.

It is true that sometimes people do leave emu's unfinnished, but the majority of the time there life outside such as work etc just begins to pile up, many reasons,but as we have seen PSX-P is comming along if a little slowly but is still moving, and there was word that strmnnrmn hadnt given up on deadalus, he is just V.busy, fingers crossed hey, keep the faith.

No, it's just that YOU are the noob.
Those people must know much more than you, since they released the source of the EMU (and not player, its an ACTUAL emulator, it's just that Sony made their own format, PLUS they're locked with a unique code to be used only by ONE PS3 and ONE PSP.

Thanks for the support and I really enjoy this project already. This is definitely going to be a rarity for homebrew emulation on a handheld. To have something of this scale written specifically for a certain handhelds hardware is a great idea. With the PSP's hardware this should be exciting to squeeze performance out of this neglected handheld's secrets such as it's VFPU.

I would donate a 1.5 Psp but I do not have enough faith in projects such as these anymore. I could imagine donating a Psp only to hear that the project had been discontinued.

I remember the words of Pacmanfan when he first started work on his Ps1 Psx emulator as seen below:

''PSPSOne is more than an emulator to me. It's a legacy, It's a playable history of video games perfectly preserved from the 90's.

Wow you are all still complaining about the price of the ps3 whew i feel bad for you it runs linux, a 60GB hard drive that can b pulled out to put in an even bigger HD, HD compatible, plays music vids photos etc, connects to the ipod so you can charge it, exchange media through the psp, ipod, camera, etc can create partitions on the HD for linux, windows, or Yellow Dog, download demos, trailers, and full games on the ps store, connect your psp to it and use it as a remote controller, import audio cd's to the system, play games while listening to music, better graphics then the 360 and better loading times hmmm and uhh its been out for less than a week and people already have linux, snes, and nes running yeah its a BAD idea to buy a ps3 minus Zelda:Twilight Princess and the Wii is nothing.

PS3 + Blu-Ray = Amazing

Wii + Zelda = Cheap people who cant keep up with gaming

Even if the Wii beats the ps3 in sales dont forget that the system is a good 250 dollars more and on some system cases (60GB) 350 dollars more so if the ps3 sells even half as the Wii its still beating them.

PacManFan took a different route than this project though. PMF was taking a PC Playstation emulator known as PCSX, and was attempting to write a dynamic recompiler and VFPU assembly instruction version of it's GTE.

Basically, as shown by the source left by PacManFan, he was trying to take an existing emulator and make it more suitable for the PSP. I imagine he found out what I had during my emulation attempts of the PS1 on handhelds...PCSX was a work in progress. It not only was incomplete, it was designed for PC's. It's not suited for handhelds when it comes to performance available right now.

This project is not vaporware. I have seen some of the code hlide has been working on, and its quality is amazing. He knows exactly what he's doing. He of course has a PSP and is familar with it's hardware. After speaking with Exophase and hlide, I too would definitely be suited for PSP development, but I do not currently have one.

I have already been through the whole process of getting a ps1 emulator up and running. I have done so with the psx4all project on the GP2X, Sharp Zaurus, and iStation V43.

In fact, I too have already written a PS1 R3000A -> MIPS32 dynarec that is compatible with PCSX (e.g. PSXP) but had to turn down Yoshihiro's request for the dynarec. This dynarec, although modified, is already working on the MIPS32 processor based iStation V43 version of psx4all.

So there is plenty of potential here.
This is basically the best chance PSP users have for a truly PSP specific homebrew PS1 emulator.

I truly believe hlide is capable of this emulator, and has already shown me he knows what he's talking about. Do not write this emulator off too quickly. I'm speaking from expierence. :)
