to get the game to save what i do is when i get an newcharacter i fight and win with him and it will save to versus records go to title screen press select goto emu menu and open smash then shutdown

cool. i remember getting all of that stuff when i played it on the N64. the only thing i didnt have was Ness. And i loved the menu that lets you choose what items appear. but i dont want to work to unlock it all again. i cant wait for the save state to be uploaded.

noob question... how do you disable items? when i play on the n64 at my friends house we always play without items but theres no option on my ROM. is it the rom or do i have to unlock it?

you have to unlock item switch (play 50 matches in VS mode)

u have to go into story mode and die until u get a game set, then when it asks you to continue u have to choose NO, then it should save. its annoying, i had to do that a lot of times.
