Mobydisk has released a new Dictionary for the DS:
My first homebrew application for the Nintendo DS. Never be without a dictionary again!
DS Dictionary version 1 (last updated 2007/06/07)
You will need the DLDI patch tool tool and a suitable mod chip for your DS.

I havent tried newdict, I remember a scrabble dictionary appearing is that the same one. All dictionaries should have a scrabble option, nothing like being able to cheat on the fly at boring games.
Try newdicts. It does exactly what you are writing though you mustn't doubleclick, singleclick is enough to see the definition. And you can choose from hundreds of available dictionaries (STARDICT-format) ........ including a german wikipedia dump.Quote:

its my first time seeing this. it looks cool. dictionary functionality is one of the things I want to program too.
NewDictS has this problem wherein it can only make use of dictionary files that are 4 mb or less (probably, the whole file is being squeezed in the ds main ram), and it has to be in uncompressed format.

That remark is far from true. Otherwise I would have a DS all people are eager to get with Newdicts on it and a 1600MB wikipediadump-dictionary (german) running with it.

Your quote relies to on an older version of newdicts. Sesa intruduced the .aoi files thus getting rid of the limitations of the index files. I could actually run most of the dictionaries I tried (even wordnet).

At palib I included a link with the most recent version of newdicts and a collection of older versions if the newest one isn't working.
Sesa didn't release his source and will not do it until he thinks the program finished.

I see. I took a look at the source code, and I noticed that stardict's .idx files are similar to the lookup table in moby disk's dsdict file format. only that in mobydisk's implementation the "idx file" is already inside the dictionary file itself, which is in plaintext.
So it made me wonder. What was the limitation inside the old NewDictS that it had to make use of a .aoi file in the first place? How does the .aoi file solve that problem exactly (whatever it is)? The developer's thread is in Chinese, so I couldn't make much out of it.
I also noticed that the contents of a .aoi file (what does aoi stand for anyway?) is a sort of lookup table for the words inside the corresponding .idx files (and a .idx file, in turn, is a lookup table for the .dict file). I'm guessing this is for faster loading of the .idx file into memory? If that's so, does that mean all the contents of the .idx is loaded into memory?
I'm curious since in the future I'm planning on adding a dictionary lookup feature in the text editor program I'm making.
(I hope my post still counts as related to the topic in this thread)

Due to the limitations of the DS memory it was necessary to create the aoi file to have access to larger index files (idx).
