Apple and Google eyeing UK football rights?

It's the only surefire way to buy your way into the British TV mainstream.
Numerous reports suggest that the two tech juggernauts are to join the next round of negotiations for live 2013-2016 Premier League TV rights when the tender goes out before the end of the season.
If they are serious about establishing Apple TV and Google TV respectively as genuine viewing options for the British public, this is the only way to go.
It's what Sky discovered nearly 20 years ago when it fiddled around with movies and US imports unsuccessfully, before locking up footy and beginning its journey into 10m UK homes.
Sky paid £1.6billion for its current package, which guarantees it five times more games than the 23 bagged by the other rights owner ESPN.
Other commentators, such as PaidContent, believe a deal is unlikely because Apple and Google are not broadcasters, but tech firms and it would be counter to their usual modus operandi.
