try running a 2d game first...like mischief makers, or another 2d game instead of going all out to 3D
then if michief makers fully works, then start with doom

Doom64 uses 3d geometry for the maps and billboard planes for the sprites.
Quake 1 & 2 are fully 3d.

1) Search the topic and you will find the answer to the release question (this is one reason i am not happy about all the spam, it keeps getting barried then someone ask again).
