You're right, it's homebrew. Which means he made it himself, and can do with it what he pleases.

If he wants to get traffic on his site, good for him. If he wants to keep it off of "certain sites", then that's his prerogative. If he wants to ensure that his project isn't played off to be the work of someone else, more power to him.

I feel like homebrew sites such as this should have the users download from the author's site more often anyway. It gives them traffic (helps with hosting), helps them keep track of downloads (popularity) and gives them more comments in a place they know to look (in their blogs).

It'd bring more attention off the files, and put it somewhere more deserving... On the authors.

what is the positive of using a DRM on openly available freeware?

you get to use more bandwidth and have some meaningless download stats

if this was commercial i would totally understand
agreed, it makes no sense, and for that reason, i am NOT downloading the game.

    The ever-living point...

I won't be downloading this, just because of the pure annoyance of it

If the coder wants to add some sort of DRM to his release, that's his choice.
But he'll only have himself to blame if his release doesn't reach the masses OR he gains notoriety for being "the guy who tried to DRM homebrew".
    That's a lose-lose in my book.

Why DRM is good for homebrew.

Homebrew in general without DRM will get hosted by anyone to get more hits on his/her site.

You will in future download a copy that is an older version that has a bad bug in it. With DRM that is prevented.

Without DRM one could try and hex edit the contents and present to others as his/her own work, with DRM that is not possible.

Remember Tetris with background music & sound for TIFF, well I developed that and someone else got all the credit.

So who is to blame for DRM in Lonpos, well not me.

The one that is guilty is the one that will jump at the chance to get credit for your hard work.

S.O.L.O (Software Original Location Only) was developed for homebrew and is what the DRM is in Lonpos.
Free press is hard to find and one good way of getting it was to call SOLO DRM, by doing so I have gotten a lot of free advertising press on all kinds of sites, so was it a bad choice for Lonpos to have DRM, I would say no it was the best choice I ever made.

DATA.DRM is signed to the PlayStation Portable device so it is not transferable.
First BETA release dose have a bypass for DRM ?

You make some good pints, but out of pure annoyance i am not downloading or playing any homebrew that includes DRM. and by the looks of it a few others agree as well. If you want credit for your own work, don't let it get leaked and stolen, make sure your the one who announces it. if a coder lets his or her project get stolen by a Microsoft wanna be than i think it's his or her own fault for not introducing it themselves or letting it get leaked.

And what exactly is the point of that? So people won't be able to share your work with their friends - meaning less people play it. If it is to prevent beta tester leaks, there are ways of securing things to individual PSP's, by asking some things from them.
