Since late 2005 I'd been using PSP Genesis but heard a lot of good things about DGen so I installed 1.70 last night. So far I like it alot, beautiful emu, video/speed definitely seems improved over PSPGenesis with great presentation as well. But my Rockman Megaworld/Wily Wars and Contra Hard Corps will not run (both ran fine on PSP Genesis), and I've tried several different roms from another source. Anyone else have issues running either title on DGen?

edit: 3 different roms now for each from at least two different sources now and DGen still will not run them. When trying to boot either Wily Wars or Contra, it just goes to a black screen on the view window. In the process I also discovered DGen will not run the Genny rev of Sparkster, just goes to a screen with region info and a message from whoever dumped the rom. Looks like I'll keep my PSPGenesis for these and any other odd games that won't work.

Contra - Hard Corps is working fine for me in V 1.70
Try to mess around with Settings->Country priority and choose the first priority what country your game is from (i guess it's a (U)=USA version).
I don't have Rockman, but i guess DGen is absolute superior to PSPGenesis since V 1.30

    Hi guys

Just a quick question to which I have not been able to find an answer.

Basically are there any PSP Emu's that play the Sega Genesis 32X games.... or are we restricted to megadrive/genesis games only??

    Thanks in advance

YNWA2006: There is no support for 32X or Sega CD on the PSP (as far as I know)

Dylan1CC: I kept hearing that Dgen was the best, so I never bothered trying any of the other emulators. It works just great for most of my games, but the only one I ever REALLY want to play (Revenge of Shinobi) is pretty slow and almost unplayable in it. But after reading your post, I downloaded PSPGenesis and gave it a shot. Wow, much better. Still just a bit slow, but at least it's playable now. Thanks for the heads up.

O-bake: Thanks for the info but I already tried the country priority setting and they still would not load. And again, bear in mind I used several different roms for each game from several different sources.

b8a: Glad PSPGenesis is working well for you. It's a very good emu, it'd be great if the author released some more updates for it.

Now, more issues to report with DGen. Last night I gave Earthworm Jim and Gunstar Heroes a spin.

In GH there is very noticeable slowdown and frame rate drops. As an example, I was playing stage 1 and was surrounded by baddies. So, of course I did the jump/dive move to evade them. As my guy was flying through the air/landing the animation slowed and became quite choppy. While sliding down the pyramid/slope, my character disappeared a few times.

In EJ, getting hit by an enemy will cause your character sprite to completely disappear for several moments at a time which literally gives you an invisible Jim firing his gun out of thin air. I have never experienced either issue when playing these games with PSPGenesis.

edit: To clarify, I am using PSPGenesis 18c and all the games I just discussed run very well. GSH and Earthworm Jim both seem to run in full speed none of the mentioned issues.

That's because most games use sprite flickering after you get hit (I.E. they only draw the sprite every other frame). If you are using frameskipping and the frames being skipped are the same as the frames where the sprite is being displayed then you won't see the character sprite until the effect stops. The only way to avoid this is if the emulator supports random/automatic frame skipping (which I dont think DGen does).

That's still no excuse for the fact this emulator needs a lot of work. And I never mess with frame skipping options. Anyways, I moved all my roms back into my PSPGenesis folder and surprise! All my old roms load, no flickering, no disappearing sprites and even the busiest games such as Gunstar Heroes run full speed. DGen is completely overhyped.

If you didn't change the frameskip settings but the sprites still disappear then it must be enabled by default. If you turn it off by setting max frameskip to zero then the sprites won't disappear anymore when you get hit. (I probably should have made this clearer in my last post.) Its not like most games need it to run full speed either.

No I didn't use DGen's frame skip at all. I never touch frame skip when I use an emulator because the way I see it, if it's a good emulator it should automatically run the games as close to they are on TV/console without having to mess with some setting in the menu. Last night I also tried Thunderforce 3 and the ship kept disappearing. Very lame.

Anyways, DGen is too much hassle and like I said is overhyped with all its problems. I'm sticking with PSPGenesis.
