automatic d/l over wifi does not make too much sence - since most of the time you'd be outside the wifi coverage area... you could get a small map "manually" - ie you'll have to press a few buttons on your PSP... (this feature is temporarily disabled in the Sony version of the program though)...
downloading a big map over wifi probably does not make alot of sence - takes too long...

    Default My GPS results

Hey Deniska, I tried this with the latest release(geodata fix) and PSP-290 with 2.71 usbacc and 3.03 usbgps. I am from Queens, NY. It took me a while to get a fix at first; I went out to Victory Field(Woodhaven) got a fix pretty quick there, and it was working pretty good for me. I only lost connection when going under train tracks or indoors. Is my PSP-290 acting better than yours, or the same? I know you said you were having problems.

It works about the same way for me in Brooklyn (ie I'd have to run to a field to get initial fix. Of course this make this recever very unpractical. I've already tired to PSP-290 units and the act pretty much the same....
I guess this unit was not ment for big US cities...

i know that my 290 works because when i use the gps test program i get a fix and it is very quick. I am also using 3.03 oec. I have used usbgps and usbacc from fw2.71.
i did get a fix with mapthis earlier today but it has stopped working again.
Although I don't dismiss the possibility that something is not quite right with MapThis' gps function, I still believe that most of experiences with bad reception are due to weak sensitivity of PSP-290 unit...
Please understand one thing (and you can easily verify it buy looking at green screen program) - satellites do move arround, and so the signal streinght, angles, etc do change almost every few minutes. Plus other things (like clouds, radio transmissions and so on) may also affect the overall reception...So yes you could get a fast and farely strong fix one time and then completely unable to get your position few minutes after...

Then again, if you 100% sure that you psp-290 gets fast and reliable fix for along time with the green screen program -please let me know - i'll look in to my code again...

    Hi Deniska,

Just to add my experience that I did test out the green screen program a lot. As a comparison, on the same journey, same weather conditions on a 20mins drive, I can get faster and reliable fixes on the green proggie compared to the gps in mapthis that frequently dropouts...

I really love your work ^_^ Without Mapthis, I think my psp290 would be useless.

    Thank you.

Default mp3 background music? Turn-by-turn voice command?

    Hey Deniska,

First off great work releasing MapThis compatible with PSP-290. I bought the gps unit the next day it came out (I'm in Los Angeles) and had no use for it until now!

I got it to work and it works great!! I was wondering if you are working on the ability to play mp3's in the background and also if you were going to implement turn by turn voice prompts?

    Thanks.

Oh and do you have paypal to donate money?

No plans for mp3s... but, i believe there are plugins to custom firmware that allow playing mp3 on the background, there is also irshell...
give it a try and let me know if it works...

As far as turn by turn prompts - don't expect route calculation any time soon... reasons - no good free data and reliable open-source algorithms yet...
I tried to generate a short route with roadnav (http://roadnav.sourceforge.net) and it sen't me through enother state...

I guess your looking for the thread called "Windows maps download tool for MapThis! by in7ane" which is directly under this one.

    http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=33068

I think the steps of how to get maps using it has been covered in this thread and also the one that I linked to.
