Developer behind Star Trek working on sci-fi PC shooter for this winter
Digital Extremes, which is working on Star Trek for 2013, has unveiled another project under its banner. Warframe, a new PvE sci-fi shooter will be coming out late this year with the hope for a beta by fall. The new game will be a free-to-play shooter, one that Digital Extremes hopes will create an 'evolving world' for gamers to shape and play in.
"We've heard for years now that PC gaming is dead. It isn't dead; it just went underground for a few years and is now re-emerging with this massively growing free-to-play market that has matured to the point where the quality of games we're seeing rivals many AAA retail games," said head of Digital Extremes James Schmalz.
Warframe is something that the studio has wanted to work on for some time, says chief creative director Steve Sinclair. With a solid F2P business model and a push to really include player feedback, Digital Extremes believes that the game will be a solid performer in the triple-A market, one that has been seeing major successes in titles
like World of Tanks and League of Legends.

Of course, the team is still working on the Star Trek title, which was recently pushed back to a 2013 release date. The team will be working on a game that directly relates to the J.J. Abrams universe created back in 2009 with the movie.
