Unhappy PSP Slim's funny screws (top) - help!

    uhm

    heres the thing,

I got a PSP slim from a friend at a reeeally cheap price cos he didnt have a charger - and also the screen is scratched to buggery.

... sooo... I thought hey, I can get a faceplate from ebay, then repair it... piece of cake, right?

... I got a small screwdriver, and then a new faceplate, sat down... then paused at the funky screws at the top.... what the hell? - I checked the net and found they were of the "TORX" type, so I ordered a torx kit from ebay (again) ... They came, I then found out that NONE of them fit the screw... all too big, dangit!

SOOO... How the hell do you open this thing? Anyone? Theres a guide here http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/sho...t=74258&page=2 but it doesnt mention them screws at all... its like they werent there or something... agkk.. help !
..... if you know where to get the screwdriver / tool online , please let me know! - living in Japan at the moment and its a ... nnoying

I guess you need something like this:

I'm sure you could find a similar thing in a set at a hardware/electronics store cheaper though.

I have a fat PSP (never disassembled) and the only screws I can see on the outside and looking in the UMD door are small Phillips heads.

So is this just a standard small phillips end or is it the torx funky type? .. I wish the sellers would give more information than "Its a screwdriver"

No idea sorry, its just listed as a psp slim screwdriver.

So they screws are definitely very small torx (star looking)?

Comparison of the different drive types

yep, definately a TORX type... i watched a video on youtube that showed a tool for these screws, - its a bit odd that its not really mentioned anywhere else though.... were they added with a new "update" of the psp slim or something? I live in Japan so it could be that its only on the japanese version of the slim?

It sounds strange that they would change the drive type of the screws in different systems of the same model. Certainly possible though.

I just found this for you:

    http://www.qisahn.com/index.php?main...roducts_id=398

You're right, its something specific to Japanese slim PSPs: "For opening Torx T2 screws found on Japan PSP Slim"

So you need a torx T2 screwdriver, they are not as common as t3 and up, most of the sets on ebay only go down to T3.

I know nothing of that site, it just came up from a search for 'psp slim t2'.

Edit: More searching turned up this: "The T2 didn't fit, so it must be T1."

So god knows who to believe......

    T1 torx for sale.
