    Default Downgrading 2.01 firmware

A friend showed up yesterday with his PSP, apparently a used one that someone had given him because they hadn't used it in a long time. It's running 2.01 which, as far as I can tell, has a couple of vulnerabilities.

The ultimate goal is to get the thing running some kind of custom firmware (and from there set up a Pandora's battery so that we can reflash our 3.80 PSP). Last I heard, the best bet would be Dark-Alex's M33 firmware of some version.

As for downgrading, there is a 2.01 downgrader, which seems to work by faking the version number on the current firmware, allowing you to install the 1.50 upgrade. The problem is that it's really old, and I can't find any information on it - I can't even tell if the thing actually works. I also can't find any downloads of it, the required eLoader files, or just about anything else from that far back.

So, does anyone remember what to do with a 2.01 PSP, and where I can get hold of the required tools?

Can't you just update it to another firmware which has an easier to find Downgrader?

Maybe, but as far as I can see they all require an unpatched copy of GTA, which we don't have.

Edit: Never mind - there's quite a few there that would work, including the 2.01 downgrader. Thanks for the links!

Oh right, fair enough. There's another one which uses Lumines, if you've got that ?

Anyway, have you checked this site ?

Reading the Readme, you'll also need the 1.5 .eboot, which you can get from my post above this, and Eloader 0.98.

Edit: lol, here's me reading the Readme and finding all the files for you and you hadn't even checked to see if there were some that worked ! :P

Thanks. That appears to be just about everything I'll need.

It sounds like the 2.01 downgrader wasn't available until long after the 2.5 / 2.6 / 2.7 downgraders, so that might explain why I can find so little mention of it. From the sound of it, it's not likely to brick the PSP, so that sounds like the best bet.

I didn't think of it when I saw the question, but it's by Noobz, a very trustworthy group.

I used the MPH 2.0 downgrader (which this is based on) when it first came out, follow the instructions in the readme and you'll have no problems. I guess giving the memory stick a format before copying the files over is always a good thing but not necessary.
