Did it ever occur to anyone that the Select button on any system is never used to select anything?

have you ever played zelda? Select is used in every system, just not in every game.

On NES many of the games used the select buttons to select things: Gamemode, Number of Players, Samegames etc. After the NES many consoles have a select button but almost no games uses it.
