Rev MFE Port to Wii Test Release v1 - Media Player for Nintendo Wii

Nuvalo who released the first version of his port of MFE the media player to the Nintendo Wii via Wii Linuc has released a new test version, heres what he posted:

Hi everyone . I was tryng to see how to solve those problems, but seems hard to find out. I post here the source code, for those who wants to take a look and try to help to solve the problems:

    http://rapidshare.com/files/10658157...c.tar.bz2.html

I compiled a newer version of mplayer and some libraries, to see it it solves any problem, but seems to have more problems than the old version. I also added some features:

    Download: testv1
It is a test version, to see if works better or worst:
    http://www.nacionarcade.net/wp-conte...-11-testv1.zip

    And the new features:
    - Solved the problems with the pad
    - Mount/umount SD: Press R for 2 seconds, take out the sdcard, insert a new one and pres R again
    - Reset the console: (int the older version works too, i didn't noticed of that, sorry :P) Hold Z from MFE menu and in a few seconds it will reboot.
    - Added 32MB of swap in MEM2 (I thought that the videos that does not show anything was a problem of memory, but it does nothing...)

and the menu is the best one i've seen so far on any wii homebrew app really nice!

    Exclamation

    Great new homebrew!

Just need WiiMote and DVD support.

I found 2 problems in this release:

    1) As from MFE running from GameCube disc, it does not support component (RGB) cable without progressive scan. It seems it will allways use progressive scan with this cable. If a composite cable (AV) it works like a charm:

    Video with component cable

    Video with composite cable

    2) The mont/unmount did not work here. ** Both SD are FAT 16

the mount/unmount works for me though, but sometimes it freezes when i exit the video by pressing B, so i have to reset my wii..
but hey, it's just a test release and works awesome.

i only have one question: why is all the homebrew in black and white when i set my wii to 60hz? it's really wierd...

Yeh I get the exact same thing. That's the only thing stopping me from switchign over to this Wii version. For now I'm stickign with the previous gamecube versions

I think I'm currently using this one, which doesn't have the component cable problem:

yeah avi, dvix, xvid all work gr8 but need mp3 audio and a was wondering what are the chances of the wii getting a mp4 video player (for size and sd storage collections mp4 would be ideal)

I'm not sure what you're saying... The videos need to be encoded with MP3 audio? Or the media player needs MP3 audio support?

It has the latter. I play movies encoded with MP3 and I play MP3s by them selves. MP3 encoding in videos provides the best quality with the lowest files size, so I don't see why that's a problem. Unless you want Dolby 5.1... But that'd be hell streaming from an SD card.

I tried to watch Bleach, but it didn't work too well to say the least ^^, It's avi, but I think the quality was too much to handle. No big deal though. Either a new release will make avi's run better or I'll have to split the video up in parts.

That's because the current Bleach episodes are encoded in H.264, not Xvid which requires more processing power. Try watching one of the earlier episodes like Episode 166, the results should be much better.
