What is the f00cking point. You can encode your own movies to play on the psp anyway so whats the point.
Okay, there's a program out called UMDGEN, which basically can generate PSP compliant ISOs. Does anyone know about file format/encoding specs/filestructure or anything else about UMD movies? Would it be possible to encode our own movies and run them with certain programs we don't discuss here?
Let me know if I'm crossing any lines here.

Being able to utilize the native 480x272 resolution in high quality, that's why!
I would also like to organize my movies in another format than 1000MNwhateverthehell.
Custom menus, putting multiple episodes of tv shows on a single ISO, you could do lots of stuff the PSP won't let you do.
at first I thought this was dumb, but now you explain it it seems like a cool idea.
can't you rip a movie UMD and the unzip the contents to find out the format/encoding specs/filestructure?
I'm sure there is an app to do this, people use it to make the games smaller.
I'll try... But the only movie UMD I have is the demo disc that came with it.
