ps3 Install DEBUG FW on on Retail PS3 Rumour

PS3hax.net posted this on their site:

After a long time it finally seems that there might be a break through for the PS3 hacking scene. XVISTAMAN2005, has found a way to partially install a debug PS3 firmware on a retail PS3. Partially meaning that he has found a way to get a retail PS3 into debug mode, but currently the options are non functional.

So what is amazing about this? This gives PS3 hackers a huge new area to work with that was not previously available before, plus not to mention that devs already had a working ISO loader running on a full debug console (this method currently gives us a partial-debug console).

Whilst we are not at all interested in piracy/iso loaders the implications for PS3 Homebrew seem interesting but remember that a lot of sites claim to have exploits etc and even we have been duped so for now take any and all "exploits/breakthroughs" with a pinch of salt. Usually exploits will come from a known console hacker which has been the case down the years.

What is the point of exploiting the PS3 firmware? Sony provides the ability to install a third party OS like Linux to fully access the hardware and use homebrew as much as you want... True it is not directly accessible via the XMB but so what you can run whatever you want under Linux?

For me the only point of all this is piracy...

The problem is you can't run whatever you want under Linux. They've gimped the 'Other OS' that's why people are looking for an alternative.

Sadly linux cannot run the hardware to the fullest extent. The Cell, RSX and Memory are all gimped considerably. The only people with access to a full fledged PS3 are those using them for research (like Universities for instance).

XMB insofar is the only means of getting full on access to the PS3.

Either way, when full access is granted/hacked piracy will soon make it to the PS3. (which is probably why Sony gimped it in Linux in the first place)

Why don't they release the supposedly real iso loader? Until they actually release it, I'm not going to believe it...
