Simple help needed for simple man

Hey all, i recently (today) purchased an itouch ds and a 2gb Lexar 2gb micro sd, however when attempting to play roms the screen just tells me to read the health and safety guide, etc. and then tells me that there is no "boot.xxx" file found. when i try without a micro ds it merely tells me that there isn't one in the itouch ds. where am i going wrong? are either known for this kind of problem? i can still return/exchange either of the cards.
