well, i dont think you will get anyone disagreeing arround here with that. course we all want sony to be nice. theyre a big bunch of.... never mind.

damnit if they released the sdk for psp then there would be very little need for people to go snooping arround cracking sonys system wide open. even if there were people doing it, the demand would be so much smaller. the majority want to be able to play homebrew and emulators etc. the moajority dont care if they do it legit or not. the majority dont want to know anything about the psp, they just want to play the cool games. i was going somewhere with that.... you fill in the blanks.

and to mr. psp isnt made for your convenience... well.... it is. convenient gaming/umd video/ music. i think what you are getting at is that it isnt marketed at being something for people to conveniently write their own apps on.

Sony have to stop emulation and homebrew as if they dont they will be threatened with court action by the likes of Nintendo.

All the loaders released have killed off any chance that we had of them leaving homebrew alone.

Piracy does harm to them and us and thats a fact.

I guess I don't understand that. Is Microsoft held responsible for what people write using Visual Studio? Is Sun held liable for anything written in Java?

Giving us the ability to develop on the PSP should not be an evil thing. It would MAKE them money and attract a clientel. It's not their (or our) fault that emulators are written. That's something that the respective copyright owners need to take up with the developers or people owning roms illegally.

Sony seems to be ignorant of the PSP's potential and want it to be a game playing, movie munching music player. It could be so much more, which is depressing.

I wish though they found a way to just stop the piracy and not homebrew. I'm impressed by the many nice applications coders have created for our little PSPs. And I meant to say in my previous post, 'Do not think for one second that the PSP is for your convienence' I meant to add the word JUST in there, but after AreYouStillWithMe posted , I noticed my mistake. And I AM glad we have SanDisk around to put Sony at odds with their Memory Sticks.

You're right though about Sony stopping homebrew in its tracks when it comes down to piracy. I still wish Sony would just create an app that makes it easier for coders and legit applications (not emus or umd loaders...) to be allowed to run on the PSP. Why cant they just make one that uses MD5 hashing or something to allow only specific programs that Sony would have to digitally sign to run on the PSP?

Sony is a large corporation. They are firmly mired in a bureaucracy that will never let them support homebrew. They can't. Corporate culture discourages this at every level.

Here in America we used to support the spirit of homebrew development (remember Apple in it's infancy? Bell Telephone?) but now our corporations are are so large that they can't remember what started all this in the first place. And even if they did, the marketing divisions and thier focus groups quash anything that is creative. It all gets mixed down to a homogenous, tasteless stew that we are all too ready to gulp down.

They are in business to make money. Just like you and I. The main reason, as I see it, that they quash homebrew is all the warez kiddies copying the UMDs and not buying the software that makes the money for developers who will be discouraged at not making a profit and stop developing software for our PSPs.
    It's that simple.

You can rationalize pirating all you want, but with a userbase that's this small, and with not a lot of big hits on the system yet, this will bring game development down, bigtime. And the PSP users will be crying that no good software is being developed for the PSP.

You dug your own grave, boyos. Lie down and be quiet, because there is no rationalisation you can use to defend your piracy and the inevitable downfall of the system you love.

Sony has made a few incredible blunders in it's business decisions over the years. They developed Betamax, to compete with VHS when videotapes were in it's infancy. They wanted to dominate the newly blossoming video market. The trouble is, they didn't allow ANY porn to be put on the Betamax tapes. That's right, they locked out the very business that started the video revolution in the first place...LOL VHS allowed porn films and so they creamed Betamax and Betamax went the way of the dodo.

Then they introduced the Mini-Disc. No one bought them here in the U.S. Well, not the masses that Sony wanted. Sony's love affair with propriatery
formats is EXACTLY what hurts them. Everytime. Like clockwork.

Sony's huge successes, such as the Playstation and especially the walkman
are what made them the huge in the first place. The walkman uses cassette tapes, a tried and true format that millions of people us everyday. People were able to make their own mixes and carry them around with them on a cheap, easily accesable format. Sony made a mint. Too bad they forgot what made them the dough in the first place and now concentrate on propriatery
    formats that will ultimately fail.

I'd love to be in a board meeting when a new format is introduced and hear the phrase "THIS one will succeed!" I want to be the one who inserts the image of a warehouse full of unsold Super Trooper UMDs in the corporate slideshow. I wouldn't say a word. I'd just show that image anytime someone proposes why their format will succeed where all Sony's other formats failed.

DVDs are here to stay. UMDs willl fade away.

    Another hard lesson for Sony.

Geez, I'm a freakin' windbag today...

Maybe I'm out of line here but it seems like all it is now is people bitching at each other back in forth about either Sony sux or pwns for various reasons.

You argue on and on about "Why doesn't Sony just let us do this!?" "This is why" "That's a stupid reasons because of this" "That makes no sense" etc when really it doesn't matter. It's not like Sony watches these posts and makes decisions based on what you say.

So you can bicker back and forth all you want I couldn't give a damn. But just letting you know your 10 paragraph posts on why your right is being read and cared about only by those who have nothing better to do with their lives than try to analyze and understand Sony's business plans.

I think you’re wrong for chastising us for voicing our opinions/comments. This is an open board for the most part and we’re just discussing a topic that is near and dear to us. If we were on here talking about…….oh.. the price of gas, then yeah maybe I’d agree with you that our rants are out of place.

Will Sorny care? Of course not. Will they take our advice and go with it? Again, no. Are we right? Yep.
