Consider your Valentine's Day plans booked. Paramount Pictures has delayed the Sonic the Hedgehog movie to February 14, 2020.
Director Alex Fowler tweeted the news of the delay today, saying "Taking a little more time to make Sonic just right" and adding a hashtag stating no visual effects artists were harmed in the making of the movie.
The first trailer for the movie was released in February, and drew a number of complaints from Sonic fans about the way the character had been redesigned for the live-action film. Fowler went on Twitter the same week to say Paramount and Sega had heard the criticism and would change the character design for the film's release, which at that time had been set for November 20. Fowler's hashtag on the tweet, "#GottaFixFast" prompted some to express concern that visual effects artists working on the film would be made to crunch in order to meet the original release date.
Sonic the Hedgehog stars Ben Schwartz (House of Lies, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) as the voice of Sonic, with Jim Carrey (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Dead Pool) as Dr. Robotnik and James Marsden (X-Men, The Box) as a police officer who befriends Sonic.
