• “Read the entire script start to finish and go behind the scenes” of Marvel’s Spider-Man, the PlayStation 4 exclusive from Insomniac Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment.Marvel’s Spider-Man was a massive hit for Sony. We also rather liked it. It even cropped up as an easter egg in Spider-Man: Far From Home. But given that Sony’s strategy for first-person domination is based around great exclusives, Spider-Man – released in 2018 – feels like the last great one?

(Days Gone was dismal. Death Stranding was… well, Death Stranding. And for the future, The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima have both been pushed back. You can’t be the platform of the “good exclusives” if you don’t have any new good exclusives.)
But back to our original train of thought: Marvel’s Spider-Man was excellent. If you’re looking for an insight into how the game turned out so well, then you could do a lot worse than Marvel’s Spider-Man Script Book, published by Marvel itself, with content from Insomniac Games.
“The Marvel’s Spider-Man Script Book represents a colossal collaborative effort between some of the most creative and hardest working folks in the entertainment industry from Insomniac Games, PlayStation, Marvel Games, and beyond. The sheer amount of detail – a delicate and intricate web of connective narrative threads – that needs to go into the dialogue, action, and drama of a video game has no equal in any other medium. I don’t believe a video game script has ever been compiled into a script book format such as this so it’s truly a landmark celebration and exploration of what it takes to make a remarkable and memorable original story.” – Eric Monacelli, director of production, Marvel Games.
