NDS Chrono Trigger DS trailer live - first shots

    via Computer and Video Games

Square-Enix has unveiled a trailer for its DS port of Chrono Trigger that shows off gameplay footage for the first time.

The game appears to be a direct port of the SNES title, with no attempt to spruce up the graphics for its re-release.

You can take a look at it on the official website. A word of warning though - it's very Japanese.

Shots taken from Dengeki look like they've been ripped from the trailer.

Let me hear someone complain about this game so that I could go to their house and perform acts violence on their persons and property (using their own appendages to slap them across the face while saying, such things as "Oooh, look at your face!" or " Stop hitting yourself!".

Huge disappointment.. lol, it looks really weak in comparison with the canned 3d remake by some fans..

LAAAAAAME. I was hoping for a 3D remake, if anything. They'd better do SOMETHING to it, or sales will definitely be much lower, as many fans (including myself) will likely boycott such a lazy port.

I'll stick to emulating the SNES version on the PSP, thanks. As far as direct SNES ports go, the PSP shines; you can't beat the big LCD screen.

Bottom line: MAJOR disappointment, especially after getting my hopes up. I hope another team takes up the unofficial 3D remake again, even though it blatantly defies the (now very old) cease and desist order.

i'll get it. come on, it's a snes port, so it can only be as good as the original: revenant wings had 2d sprites, and initially i wasn't impressed. then i couldn't stop playing it till i squeezed every drop of gameplay from the game...

In a way I'm glad it's more of a port than redoing it with 3d. In my opinion I didn't care for the 3d in FFIII or FFIV remakes. It just wasn't my style. The 3d was good as far as DS standards go, but 3d is just a bit too weak on the DS for my tastes. Besides I'll always be a 2D nut. I do hope they will make use of the DS for this port, but I have no idea how they will. What people want (me included) is another sequel, a totally new game. It will probably never happen so we'll have to deal with this. I just hope they added something to it. I'm sure they will. It was just the first trailer.

To avoid an owl war, Ill get back on topic.
I really like Chrono Trigger for the SNES. At most I'd like them to redo the graphics a bit (I love hires 2D). And they'll probably update the soundtrack from SNES-style audio to what the DS is capable of.
