ok, got a recently released game, wants to update firmware. how would i go about updating to the most recently released firmware?

i often use home brew (ir-shell, vnc viewer etc) and would like to gain all of the pluses (sp?).

To upgrade, you will need the custom firmware installer files, and some official sony firmware update files.

You get the custom firmware installer files here: http://dark-alex.org/index_psp.php
You get the official sony firmware installer files here:http://www.psp-hacks.com/category/36

Don't forget to use the USB storage safe eject icon in the windows system tray to disconnect your PSP from PC. Don't just pull the cable out.

    Steps:
    1. Format your PSP's memory stick from the PSP menu (all the way left, down to system settings, down to 'format memory stick'. I'm assuming you have a memory stick 256MB or bigger, and not a dodgy (probably fake) one from ebay.
    2. Download 3.52 M33 (release)
    3. Download official sony firmware 3.52
    4. Download official sony firmware 1.50
    5. Follow the instructions in the readme.en from the 3.25M33 (release) download exactly to install custom firmware 3.52 M33.
You will need to either choose to open it with notepad, or rename the file to readme.en.txt then double click it.
    6. Confirm it has installed ok. All the way left in psp menu, down to System settings, down to system information, check the system software version.
    7. Download Custom firmware 3.52 M33-4 update
    8. Copy the 'PSP' and 'seplugins' folders to the root of your memory stick. Root means not inside any folder, so X:\ (where x is the drive letter of the PSP), click 'yes to all' if asked to 'confirm folder replace'.
    9. Run the 3.52-M33-4 updater from the game/memory stick section of the PSP menu.

Once you're at 3.52M33-4, you can upgrade to one of the more recent M33 custom firmwares from the first link if the game needs a firmware higher than 3.52.

oof. I know m33 has a hacked System Update where it downloads the necceesary data , try it if the download size is 1MB then do it! otherwise cancel and follow the precise instructions above!

    thanks for the reply :-)

    two questions though:
1: this psp is model psp1003 (says the sticker on the bottom), and another that needs this is model psp1007 (from the sticker again). is it safe to do to these?
2: i have heard that for the slim psp the 1.50 had to be removed, and homebrew was lost. will this affect these psps, and if it does, how do i regain it?

    thanks for the help :-)

EDIT: 2 of those links are not working. the 3.52 M33 (release) and the Custom firmware 3.52 M33-4 update links.
dont want to download a potentially iffy version lol

    1)You said you had 3.40 OE-A installed.
That means its a fat PSP and has already overcome any issues with different hardware versions of the fat PSP type.
If the 2nd PSP is not already running a custom firmware or official 1.50 then it will take more work.

    2) If they are fat PSPs, then info on the slim doesn't effect you.
The slim cannot run firmware 1.5 directly like fat PSPs can.

Newer custom firmware's (3.71 and above) running on a fat PSP require the '1.50 kernal plugin' to run homebrew made for firmware 1.5.
Slim PSPs cannot do this, there is a thing called time machine but thats for another thread.....

It seems the links from the official dark alex site are broken, Ill upload those files here.

I still run 3.52M33-4 still as there are no recent official games I really want to get and it has been perfectly stable.

actually managed to get it sorted directly from the dark-alex site. you have been a great help :-)

now happily running 4.01 M33-2 on both PSPs, now able to run NFS Prostreet, and Wall-E (for the other psp, not mine lol)

    Thank You for the Help
