Transfer DC saves to PC?

I'd love to be able to backup my saves, and after a VMU died last week, "love" has changed to a word much more strong than any in my vocab
Is there anything out there to connect a VMU to my pc? If I connect the controller with the VMU in it would that work?

You need a PC link cable.

Note that this package does not include the transfer cable, only the memory card.

Are those guys reliable? I notice that on the cable they do have, it's a serial port cable - any way to do it through USB?
Will that cable work with the original official VMU or only 4meg cards?
