so what's the big deal about this? It's a bit unclear to me what this FW-loader actually supposed to do? (serious question(s))

emulating a FW is not going to run as smooth as the real firmware, right? So how would that translate to games? Would you be able to run games at full speed or would they suffer from the processing power being slurped up by the FW emulation?

as of yet you can't run a any FW v2.0 (and higher) specific properties? So actually playing games that require those specific FM v2.0+ properties is not (yet) possible?

I’m not flaming but I don’t see any reason for excitement for any regular psp-homebrewn-user. Don’t get me wrong. I like it that people are working on it and that they are trying to preserve homebrew along side the “mandatory” firmware updates - but this release does not strike me as a particularly interesting.

But please educate me if I have it all (or even a little) wrong.

Why not? Like I posted just now. Emulation is never going to be as good as the real thing. Simply because you are using additional system resources running the emulated FW, at least that’s my understanding and please do correct me if I have it wrong. Anyway, if you emulate the v1.5 on a v2.0 you should have all the properties of the v1.5 (minus the security holes) plus all the properties of v2.0 (like the browser, codecs and of course the security fixes). Now I can understand that because of the security fixes it may be impossible to emulate a v1.5 on a v2.0. But to me the principle of emulating v1.5 on v2.0 seems a lot more sensible (than v2.0 on v1.5). But I admit that I’m very ignorant in these matters so I could be totally wrong.

So, if you could, please elaborate on your statement Mew.

if you had kernel access on 2.0 why would you want to emulate 1.5?

well... apart from not getting this thing to work *at all* thus far... I'd have to say that not only is it worthless but releasing this particular source code *if it does work at all* was a dumb move... can't any of you see in the source code how easy it is for sony to make the version changer worthless (as far as new games thinking you need an updated firmware to play or not) regardless of what new encryption they come up with? Gosh, for what did work, this little proggy says that I have a 1.50 PSP even though I have mine 'tricked' to a 7.5. that little piece of code must be a gleam in $ony's eye right about now! So much easier than changing thier encryption...

    bonehead!

Simulating it backwards wouldnt do any thing special
You would still be unable to run kernel

Its a stupid idea so just let it go

How well does emulating iso's work? Better? I imagine it takes little extra processing power for a device to emulate doing what it's supposed to do, if that makes any sense at all. Once one of the FW emulators is working, this could be a great way of playing 2.0+ games, and using the web browser.

I also think it's very funny how when the MPH FW loader was released, this one came out within a week. The MPH one was updated, then now... Didn't this team come out with a downgraded shortly after MPH too? Have we ever seen both of them in the same room?

i'm surprised no one has asked this yet. On other psp sites i always saw this question---Does GTA work on this? And if so i dont understand how to load the firmwares. I know how to launch it from the GAME folder and all that stuff but i dont know how to decrypt the updates and where to put them once they are. . .
