Id love to hear some developers thoughts on the following list of things I've looked at, are any of these possible?

    Secret Maryo Chronicles - http://www.secretmaryo.org/
    StepMania - http://www.stepmania.com/
    Stendhal - http://arianne.sourceforge.net/
    Volleyball manager - http://www.vm.e-siatka.pl/index.php
    Warzone 2100 - http://wz2100.net/

    Abuse - http://abuse.zoy.org/

Im also a begging programmer just really starting out, and would like you to recommend a easy game to port so as to learn.

I'll be looking for guides on setting up a development environment starting a little later.

Im currently just finishing reading up on selfbooting, IP.bin 1st read etc.

    Thanks for your time

    ok let's see:

Stepmania - I love dance games (specially pump it up) and want to make a piu simulator for DC. I don't know if stepmania can work on DC, it requires a lot of power process (me and my brother are very familiarized with the theme making and stepmaking and i can tell you that SM isn't an easytoport game, the source is a mess).

Frets on fire - That was my idea and i want to do it, but someone says to me "hey, we will make this port so stay away moth*******************).

Neverball - Is ported by CHUI, you can try his working beta, is one of the best 3d homebrews available.

The rest, i don't know, but someone can follow this list.
Thanks for the list, it is always necessary that people can suggest good "material" to port. Bye!

I, too, would LOVE Stepmania on the DC. Especially if one can use the same song packs as the PC version.

Wow, quite a long list for demanding

The Battle for Wesnoth - rather imposible because it uses sdl_net (not ported to dc) and phyton (among other things).

Ur-Quan - this can be ported, but be warned for performance, because it uses libogg and libvortis. These can be uses for DC, but they require a bit of CPU. Also, we have to check for ram uses.
