Psp Hell!

Hello,
I am having a hard time upgrading my psp 3.52 m33-4 firmware. I upgraded from 3.40 oea to 3.52 m33 just fine, but after applying the update 4 patch it always starts in recovery mode, when I hit home in-game no buttons or cursors work, and finally when I try to upgrade to any other version it verifies the files then prompts me to hit r or x, but before I can do anything it says cancelled by user. I've been scouring all over the web all day lokking for answers and can't find anything on this situation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
