    Default The 2008 Election

Well, the United States election is coming up very soon. We all know the main candidates Barack Obama (Democrat) and John McCain (Republican) and Vice Presidential candidates Joe Biden (D) and Sarah Palin (R).

I'm not going to give my opinions on these men, however, I encourage anyone who doesn't know as much as they think they should about either candidate to do some research and vote (beware of media bias from both sides).

As in the real election, votes will be private. So no one will start flaming you if they disagree with your views. Feel free to post your opinion on here, but don't get so in depth on a controversial subject, as that is where the fighting starts. Also remember that if this topic gets too out of hand it will be locked by a staff member.

    So cast your vote!

I'd rather not lock the topic, so keep everything under control in here.

On that note, all I have to say is Obama/Biden '08 .

I like the US as a capitalist country so I'm going with McCain.

The problem with that thread was the direction it took. Blasting other's political beliefs and spreading completely wrong/hateful information is what ended that thread. If this thread turns like that one, it'll be locked. I hope to not see that happen.

I'd like to point out that McCain (yes, Obama did too) voted for the bailout bill. I fail to see how the bailout bill is in the best interests of capitalism (isn't capitalism's greatest creed to let the market sort itself out without government intervention?). The whole Obama = Socialist thing just doesn't jive. Especially not when, at least recently, McCain's been just as much of an anti-capitalist as you could claim Obama has been.

He thinks that if you earn more money than other people you should be forced to give some of your money to them. He wants to "spread the wealth around". I really fail to see how McCain has been anywhere near as socialist as Obama. He was in a socialist party..

I give you a quote from the "New Party", a political party established by the Democratic Socialists of America (the DSA) to push forth the socialist principles of the DSA by focusing on winnable elections at a local level and spreading the Socialist movement upwards.

"New Party members are busy knocking on doors, hammering down lawn signs, and phoning voters to support NP candidates this fall. Here are some of our key races... Illinois: Three NP-members won Democratic primaries last Spring and face off against Republican opponents on election day: Danny Davis (U.S. House), Barack Obama (State Senate) and Patricia Martin (Cook County Judiciary)."

The guy wants to ship $845 billion so that people in other countries will have more money. Thats socialism on the grandest scale I've seen.

I'm going to be honest with you guys. Most Americans have no idea what real socialism is. To Canadians Obama is center-right. I'm sure most Europeans know what I'm talking about as like us they've been exposed and even elected real socialist governments. Taxing the rich more then the poor is not socialism. However buying out bad banks is somewhat socialist, two things both supposedly conservative McCain and Bush supported (as BC said before).

    As for my own opinion,

I used to really like McCain once upon a time however his actions over the course of this campaign destroyed the good man he once has. He's degenerated into an old man desperate for the Presidential office knowing this might be his last chance. Obama on the other hand is young, witty and his ideas are pretty reasonable even for a fiscal conservative/classical liberal such as myself. Plus I probably like Obama's VP pick more then Obama. Biden is fantastic, especially when you compare him to that backward ass idiot Pallin.

    Socialism
I am far from a socialist but I think you should have a better understanding of the ideology.
