Currently I have a PSP and a GameBoy Advance SP. I haven't tried modding the SP but I will be purchasing a ram cart later and loading my games onto one cartridge for easy of use. That will spring some life back into that old machine. However I am sold on the GP2X for homebrew and will be getting one shortly after I get my new cell phone (LG VX 6700). It's not perfect but the ease with which it can run homebrew and the built in TV Out are huge selling points for me.

I am currently thisclose to getting a GP2X just because of MAME - it's already running very good and has games working that I remember fondly and would love in portable form. Everything else is a bonus with GP2X...I mean the PSone is chugging slowly along on it...

The PSP has a shrinking homebrew interest; the firmware bloackage will NEVER stop until there is a modchip most likely but then you might run into different problems down the road. Also most of the homebrew apps haven't been updated in AGES and quite frankly MAME sucks on it!!!

You could give me the DS for free and I wouldn't play it; I still have a GBA SP with a flash-rom if I want...and I never use it.

    Angry Ds!!!

I own a psp and i have to say ive gotten really bored with it. Even with all the homebrew the damn firmware stops me. I have to go up and down from 1.50 to 2.00 all the time. I just got my little brother and Gf a Nintendo DS for Christmas. Now i feel left out because they are having so much more fun! My birthdays coming up so im going to get myself a DS. The PSP is getting old and useless and i hate buying those expensive games. SONY LET MY HOMEBREW GO!!! As far as the GP2X goes, I dont know anyone who has it and it seems ok but the fact that its just for homebrew makes it seem boring.

i got only a psp-(and some stationary consoles-but thats not the point)
but the only thing that the psp for me needs is more power and memory
the games just run kinda sluggish
but since i dont have a router
im stickin with a 1.5 for a while
just using the wab trick to play newer games

In My Opinion DS Owns For Creativity (Touch Screen, Mic.) GP2X Pwns Everything In The Homebrew Category, And PSP Dominates Just About Everything Else.....

Oh Yeah And iRiver ThingyMaSnottyBobber Sucks

Default PSP wins my vote by a large margin!

PSP by far.... I own both a PSP using firmware 2.0 and the genius EBOOT Loader, as well as a DS. I don't own a GP2X so I admit I will be somewhat biased towards the PSP. Although I've read a lot about the GP2X and especially comments from owners of the GP2X.

Its my opinion that the DS is not even in the same league. It is great and intuitive in its own way but it does not get used nearly as much.

Thanks to some very smart and dedicated people I stare in wonder and amazement which is renewed almost daily due to the PSP's design, versatility, and very talented homebrew developers. I can watch great quality AVC video content, play some good UMD games such as GTA, Tokobot, Legend of Heroes, Popolocrois, etc. or indulge in nostalgia and relive a big part of my childhood thanks to many quality emus. To play such classics as Zelda, Chrono Trigger, and Final Fantasy etc. on the PSP is a highly rewarding experience.

Its not just about what games can be played or what emus are available. Its the look, feel, and great design of the PSP that enhance the experience beyond what any other handheld device can. The ergonomics, the screen, the button layout compliment the high quality of the emus. With full screen support, good sound, and pixel smoothing abilities, a lot of games look and perform better on the PSP than they did on their originally designed ancestors to the PSP.

Basically to have hundreds or even thousands of games on a duo card about the size of a postage stamp gives us freedom to relive just about every era of gaming history in an elegant portable way.

Sorry this post is so long, I just can't say enough good about the PSP. There are unfortunately a couple bad things I need to gripe about:

1.) The LCD ghosting drives me nuts --> Not so much with homebrew but with UMD games and videos. Also many left with dead pixels. Very disconcerning.

2.) Ridiculously small amount of storage space --> More insulting is that the PSP is a multimedia device which can play music and videos right out of the box. The 32MB duo stick was a joke and a slap in the face. With 1GB being the largest readily available memory stick and 2GB being crazy expensive and hard to come by, I am increasingly aggravated that such a multimedia capable device has such limited storage solutions. I could live with an affordable 4GB memory stick pro duo but that might be wishful thinking.

    Not true

Until recently, as far as I was aware, the first Flash MP3 player on the market was Creative's Diamond Multimedia Rio PMP300.
This was released in Sept 1998.

However, it appears that accolade belongs to the (now defunkt ?) Saehan/Eiger Labs, who released the MPMan F10 in mid 1998.

iRiver released their first device in 2000.

Apple was nowhere near the first to market, they got into it in 2001.

    See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP3_player for info.
