Besides, imagine trying to play banjo-kazooie with that control setup. My fingers already feel the pain... Nice try, but even if it were possible, the buutton layout of the n64 was too complex to comfortably convert over to the psp.

    you missed C-Down :P
the Z button should be D-Down.

Personally, I would have the controls as:
    PSP : N64
    D pad : C buttons
    L : Z
    R : R
    Analog : Analog
    Start : Start
    Square : B
    Cross : A
    Triangle : L
Circle : Switch to preset controls B

Some games will need the contrls adjusted (eg Golden Eye) but it should be sufficent to most game.

IF this ever did happen, I'd use custom controls for every game. If a game used the d-pad and analog for the same thing, you could eliminate one, and use the d pad or analog for C buttons. Some games just wouldn't work. I think guy porting quake II mentioned using the mp3 controller. Any extra needed buttons could be mapped to it, although it'd be a hassle.

The mp3 controller gives the PSP 13 buttons, the n64 has 10.

how to use the MP3 controller to games?!?!?! O_O
you use the foward, reward and play/pause buttons?
that's kinda cool if you use for strafe and shot, but you'd need 3 hands :P
