General games Star Wars vs Star Trek: Which Franchise Has Better Space Gadgets?

Given that it's space week here on Giz, I thought it might be a perfect opportunity to pose a question that brings up the age old battle between Star Wars and Star Trek.

However, this question isn't necessarily about which movies are better overall. What I'm interested in finding out is which of these iconic sci-fi franchises have conjured up the coolest futuristic space gadgets.

It has to be Star Trek, i mean getting food from thin air and transporting everywhere without exerting any energy, this is like every American's dream.

On the one hand, you have star trek.... the big thing that they have and SW doesnt, transporter tech. its like god-dom. you can create matter from nothing. thats pretty hard to beat.

    on the other hand......

........ SW has a Mother F*****g DEATH STAR.

the ability to destroy a planet... or the power to create something from nothing....( tho ST has genesis, which can do both.... another transporter tech btw...)

Trek has had a much bigger influence on the way todays tech has evolved and how we use it in our everyday lives.

SW mostly relies on the magical "force"

("if you notice something like that.... a wizard did it"-xena on the simpons)

whereas ST is based on "science" and "physics"

its like dungeons and dragons vs stephen hawking.

tho i would hate to see stepen hawking fight a dragon. man, that would suck for everybody.

A Star Destroyer could take on an Enterprise any day.

I like both but hello, Lightsabres!

I spent too much time of my childhood wishing I had one. Good job I didn't, I'd have probably seared my legs of within minutes.

I'm looking forward to the Star Trek film. Will hopefully go see it over the coming week or 2.

In terms of raw power, Star Wars weapons and ships kick Trek's ass. But Trek has transporters and time travel, so they're cooler.

Yeah but what about the time ship that can remove whole species from existence, that beats the Death Star's lasers any day.
