Problems with recovery mode

I cannot, for the life of me, get my PSP recovery mode to view properly, and I was wondering if someone could help.

My PSP is an old version (fat) has been hacked with a 3.40 OE-A firmware by someone other than me (I received this as a gift and have no idea exactly what has been done with it)

I hold the power button up just long enough so that it powers on, and it takes around 2 minutes to show the menu. On top of that, every time I press a button, the screen goes black for another 2 minutes.

I'm having a bunch of problems with the PSP and most tuts I've read require the PSP to go into recovery mode. I'll provide more info if it's needed to help answer this question. Any assistance is appreciated.

You could try flashing the PSP to a different firmware but other than that IDK
