General games PS3, PSP Dominate Japan

PSP continues to dominate in Japan. This week's Media Create's sales charts, covering April 27 through May 3, put the system at the top of both the hardware and software charts.

Atlus brought a remake of Persona to the PSP over the week, and gamers picked it up to the tune of 79,192 units. In comparison, 2005's Devil Summoner managed total lifetime sales of 50,000 units, making this an apparent success.

Here's the full top 10 software chart.

    1. Persona (Atlus, PSP): 79,192
    2. Dragon Ball Kai (Namco Bandai, DS): 74,263
    3. Made in Ore (Nintendo, DS): 56,174
    4. Powerful Major League 2009 (Konami, PS2): 42,957
    5. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of the Sky (Pokemon, DS): 42,950
    6. Monster Hunter G (Capcom, Wii): 40,294
    7. Tora Dora Portable! (Namco Bandai, PSP): 38,365
    8. Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G PSP the Best (Capcom, PSP): 26,226
    9. Mario & Luigi RPG 3!!! (Nintendo, DS): 21,978
    10. Powerful Major League 2009 (Konami, Wii): 16,550
Aside from Mario & Luigi, Monster Hunter Portable, Monster Hunter G, and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, these were all new releases.

PSP barely beat the DSi in hardware this week. On the console side, PS3 continued to dominate, although the Wii came close to the top this week.

Here's the full hardware list, with last week's totals in parentheses.

    PSP: 49,557 (41,187)
    DSi: 49,133 (37,495)
    PS3: 23,588 (23,351)
    Wii: 21,546 (18,439)
    DS Lite: 7,540 (6,374)
    X360: 7,313 (7,016)
Due to the Golden Week holiday period, there were just a handful of releases this week. Expect things to slow down in next week's charts.

I completely agree. I don't even think 2000 units ahead is dominating if both companies sale at least 20000 units a month.

You have to take into account that PS3 and PSP have been outselling the rest for over 2 months now and in some weeks by very significant margins. While PSP didnt "dominate" this week it did outsell everything again for the umpteenth week in a row just like PS3.
