DESCENT (DX1-REBIRTH) FOR PSP
This is a port of Dx1-Rebirth for windows/linux, onto the PSP. The game is old, but it looks pretty good on the PSP. Here's what you'll need to get it up and running.
REQUIREMENTS
- Full retail version of Descent produced by Paralax Software, and published by Interplay.
- DescentPSP files - attached to this post.
- DX1-Rebirth v0.42 - download HERE.
- Descent 1.4a patch - download HERE.
- Timidity patch kit (only for music) - download HERE
INSTALLATION
You'll need to download DescentPSP attached at the end of this post. This contains the 1.00 (for 1.0 and 2.0+ users) and the 1.50 eboots. Just transfer the folders over to /PSP/GAME/. For 2.0+ users, you'll have to ask someone else lol. I don't have a 2.0+ PSP, so I've never had to deal with the eLoader or eMenu.
*** Keep in mind you can't change the folder names ***
After getting the folders ready for launching, you'll need to do a few more things, and are required to have certain files. I'll explain here:
After you install Descent on your PC, you'll need to patch the game to 1.4a. Links are provided above. Place the patch file in your Descent install directory and execute the file. You'll notice a few new files in your Descent directory. Double-click (execute) the PATCH.EXE file. This will patch your Descent installation to 1.4a.
Now copy the files DESCENT.HOG and DESCENT.PIG to your NON% Descent directory on your PSP. Example: X:/PSP/GAME/DESCENT/
Next, you want unpack the Rebirth files. The link was provided above. You need to transfer the entire contents to your NON% Descent directory on your PSP. see the above example for folder location
If you want to include music with the game, you'll need the timidity patch kit. Again, link is provided above. After you've got that file on your PC, rename it to goemon.tar.tgz and extract the contents with Winrar. You'll have a folder named goeman and a file named goemon.cgf. Rename goemon.cfg to timidity.cfg and copy that file, along with the goemon folder over to your NON% Descent PSP directory. same as above. Now you'll be able enjoy some cool beats with the game.
After you've done all that, you can take your PSP out of USB mode. You are now ready to run the game.
RUNNING DESCENT ON YOUR PSP
Once it all loads up, you'll be asked to create a new profile. F34R not (lol), 1.50 users get to use the PSP OSK. Just press SQUARE twice to active the PSP OSK. Enter your new pilot name. After you enter your name, press CROSS to continue. You'll then be asked what type of input to use. Just highlight JOYSTICK and press CROSS.
You'll then be greeted with the main menu. From here you can get right into the game, check out the options, etc. I suggest you customize your controls. If you don't, you won't be able to thrust forward, or maneuver in reverse. You don't have to customize the joystick. Choose "Customize Keyboard". This will allow you to set all your buttons the way you'd like. Once in the control config, you'll need to use the D-Pad to move to each key, pressing [X] activates an action, then you need to input the key you want to bind to that action.
After you've finished setting your controls, just press [X] until you get back to the main menu. Now START PLAYING !
Here are some screenshots that go along with the installation and gameplay:

Sorry about that wraggster lol. I normally do better than that. The PSP files have been attached. The archive includes 1.0 and 1.50 files. As most people know, the 1.0 files will be used to load it on 2.00+ firmware versions.
How can i crate my Profile with 2.60?
awesome ill post the news now![]()
Hey, thanks for the guide.
Hold L and/or R and press Cross, Square, Triangle, or Circle for X, S, T, and O, respectively. I don't think there's any other way, unless you create the file, but this is the easiest way.Originally Posted by Stealth Kill
