as long as your xbox is pludded into a router, with your computer, it doesn't matter how it's connected.
first of all, what's your comp's and xbox lan ip adress?

if you are using zone alarm or windows firewall the turn them off for starters. to connect remember to enter user name and password as xbox and use port 21. let me know how it goes

If youre going straight from the pc to xbox you need a crossover cable (mine is red)
and your ip settings as eg: PC 192.168.0.1
    and the xbox 192.168.0.2
if youre going through a router you need a standard blue cable.. I just leave my IP dynamic when going through a router..
then boot up the xbox and go to network settings (Im guessing you use XBMC as its the best dash) the ip should show up even when set to dynamic.. enter it into flashfxp and you should be set
(I also set my router to reserve the xbox ip after the first time)
also as burgess_1984 said turn off your firewalls
