Hi everyone , just gpt myself a PSP 1000 with official firmware 4.0 on it.
Can someone please tell me what is the best custom firmware to use and how to put it on the PSP.

The best CFW you can use now is the 5.00 M33 then upgrade it with the 5.50 GEN-B

I'd get a Pandora and Magic Memory Stick (MMS). That is your first order of business... 1000's are so hackable that they are nearly unbrickable if you have a Pandora/MMS. It's certainly been a godsend in our four PSP household.

Most MMS's are setup to install an M33 Custom Firmware (CFW) and M33 has a lot of fans but personally, I would go straight the 5.50 GEN-D2. It's the most recent and stable CFW that is still being actively maintained and developed. It can play all of the new, encrypted, games.

If this is the route you want to go you'll basically need to:

    1. Get a Pandora/MMS. Lot of sources for these on the net.

    2. Install M33 or whatever the MMS is setup to deliver with the Pandora.

    3. Run the XGEN installer for CFW 5.50 GEN-D (http://pspslimhacks.com/custom-firmw...en-d-released/)

    4. Run the XGEN updater to update GEN-D to GEN-D2. (http://pspslimhacks.com/custom-firmw...n-d2-released/)

The XGEN installer can also convert an M33 MMS to install GEN-D2 directly but it's a chicken and an egg problem because you have to be able to run homebrew to run the converter.

Another super useful tool for unbricking and recovering stuff in a pinch is Hellcat's Recovery Flasher Tool: http://pspslimhacks.com/hellcats-rec...-for-hen-mode/

It can flash any homebrew capable PSP straight to the most recent M33 version, without any interim updating. And can do backups and restores of your PSPs flash memory.
