General games Operation Flashpoint charts at number 2

Codemasters' Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising has made its debut at number two in the UK chart, and become the publisher's biggest selling launch title to date in the process.

Its success comes as the title was the latest to see heavy supermarket discounts at retail. Last week, Asda stores sold the game to consumers at a special offer price of GBP 27.

The week prior saw FIFA 10 discounted by many supermarkets to as low as GBP 24.97 - and the game subsequently shot to the top of the chart while becoming the second biggest all formats launch ever in the UK, after GTA IV.

This week, FIFA 10 remained on top, but sales were down significantly by 64 per cent.

Elsewhere in the chart, Need for Speed: Shift moved up one place to number three, and Professor Layton and Pandora's Box dropped to number four.

Wii Sports Resort remained rooted to the number five position, and PSP racer Gran Turismo climbed five places to number seven.

Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii took the number eight and nine positions respectively, and Guitar Hero 5 clung onto a top ten position at number ten.

Warner Bros' acclaimed DS scrawler Scribblenaut entered the chart at number 12, Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Republic Heroes made its debut at number 15, and Square's DS Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days entered at number 17.

The full Chart-Track UK all formats chart for the week ending October 10 is as follows:

    01 FIFA 10
    02 Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising
    03 Need for Speed: Shift
04 Professor Layton and Pandora's Box
    05 Wii Sports Resort
    06 Halo 3: ODST
    07 Gran Turismo
    08 Wii Fit
    09 Mario Kart Wii
    10 Guitar Hero 5

    Gutted I missed that.

One bargain I found online though... You can get the pre-order for Forza 3 Limited Collector's Edition (with the keyring, VIP stuff, usb pen drive etc) for just £39.99 at Blockbuster (instead of £55+ everywhere else).
