my music.prx broke?

i've re-installed it multiple times now, with varying versions, re-done everything, but whenever i go and start it (yes, it says "playing" in bottom-left corner, and vol = 100) it doesn't actually make any noise

like, i can't hear any of my music. the memstick indicator flashes away, games slow down (on 222MHz at least) and it tell me the name of the song, but i cannot HEAR it, what could i have done wrong?
