Boot From Memory Stick?

Is there anything out there than can boot up a bricked psp (screwed flash) via the memory stick. I've got a second psp and was wondering if there was a way to put a utility on the stick that would then fire up the brick to get another go at the flash. In fact, generally is there any external means of re-flashing other than possibly the mod-chip?

All I know of right now is the mod chip.
