Problem with Retail PAL shenmue 2

Hello,

I recently got a retail copy of the PAL version of Shenmue 2 off ebay. I have a US Dreamcast and can't seem to get it working. I'm using the Utopia boot disc. Initially I thought maybe I just burned the boot disc wrong, but when I tried booting disc 2 of the retail discs it worked fine. I cannot get disc 1 to work, so obviously, i'm unable to start a new game. It loads up to 19% and then i can hear the drive endlessly scanning and reading the disc.

any ideas? I checked out the disc and its mint. not a scratch anywhere on it.

I also tried the action replay CDX disc with the same results. disc 2 works, disc 1 doesn't. is it possible that i actually just got a copy of it with a defective disc 1?

thanks in advance for the help. Kind of bummed I dropped the cash on a retail version of this game and it seems to be defective. (if that's not motivation to just get rips of these games, I dont know what is..)

Appears CD 1 is defective. Check also CD 3! You could probably get a copy of it at various sites, of course. But it's a shame.
