how can u tell if the game is unpatched or not?

The unpatched version doesn't have a gun on the actual disc. All the new UMDs in stores are patched, so you might want to rent it or borrow it from a friend.

I got mine from ebay £ 21

just ask them if its got firmware 2.0 as the updater.

In my local games store they had preowned gta for sale. the covers were as if its a prepatched one but the umd was patched. luckly i just asked him straight out, he told me they were all 2.6

granted-if u look at the second picture-it looks like it was a store website picture-since it lacks the information on memory stick space needed etc....

Yah pretty much. You could always rent it just to downgrade.
